Congrats on buying a great car! I have to say that I too am not too happy with the Bose system. I also have an M3 which sounds much better, mostly because I loaded it up with some nice MB Quart speakers. I do have a suggestion on improving the sound though... For some reason the default flat EQ settings are way too boomy. On my CD input I set the Bass to -4 or -5, then crank up the treble to about +3 and the mids at about -1. I would suggest experimenting with pulling the bass way down and I think you will be happier. I agree that these settings seem very, very odd but in this case it seems to help.

If you are feeling adventurous I believe you can override the default EQ on the radio using a scan tool. I have never done this but would be interested to know which mode sounds better.
