Default help please

Hey everyone im new to this site and new to owning an audi aswell. Anyway i bought my car from my uncle, he buys cars wrecked, fixes them ,and then sells them back to public. well i ended up buying this 1993 audi s4 from him. He was going to fix it up and send the car to me, hes in florida and im in indy so i really havent been able to see the car yet. But i guess he ran into a problem with it. he said the car was running fine when he got it. then after a while the car faced a problem, it wouldnt start. he says that the engine isnt turning over or anything. he thought it was the fuel pump so they changed that and it still didnt run. It like theres no current of electricty running into the motor. he also said that theres a light that stays on for security. does anyone out there know what could be wrong with the car. whether it be a security system that was activated not letting the car start or mabye a electical problem that might occur with this car. any help is greatly apreciated, thanks alot.

Jason

Well it certainly could be any number electrical problems. Might be the spark plugs, the battery, coil packs, etc. We need a little more info first. If you could get your uncle to describe exactly what is happening, we could more accurately assess the problem. The more specific the question the better we can answer it.

By the way, welcome to the forum! I like your screen name, or at least it's reference to Cowboy Bebop!

Yeah, I understand your situation. Not to mention it's harder to communicate efficiently with the distance. Just try and find out as much as you can about it cuz there are a lot of guys here that know their stuff and at least one of 'em should be able to tell you what's wrong with it.

I agree with norcaltrojan on this. What mods if any) have been done? What maintenance has been done? Has the timing belt been replaced? What was done at the last tune-up? Was the battery ever disconnected (this could be the problem - this may lock up the security system and other parts)? Just some things to consider.

hey imolaS4 thanks for the welcome

well i do know that the battery was disconnected to test how good the battery was but im not sure if this was before or after the problem occured. i spoke with my uncle today and he told me that the mechanic that is working on the car found the problem. he says its the ECU is the problem and since i dont know anything really ill just have to hope that this mechanic knows what hes tallking about and it is the true problem. So with this said.... i was going ot wait for a ECU upgrade for the S4 just because i wanted to drive it before any upgrades first but i guess since im buying a new one might as well get an upgraded one. Does anyone have a sugestion on what to buy and where i can find it. Thanks for everything

Jason

There is no such thing as an upgraded ecu. You can chip the ecu to gain some HP, but the ecu has to remain the same so that it can communicate properly with the other systems of that model and year.
