Long story short is my wife kinda "stole" my 2.7T A6 and I ended up with only my daily driver, which is an 01 A4 1.8TQM. I've been searching for an S4 for months now and seem to get more frustrated as I go, with trying to decide which direction to go. B5 S4 is less money and much more modable than the B6, but you really really take a chance buying one as everyone knows the huge financial risk with the turbos going out & how the car was cared for. I like the look of the B6 more and the stock 340 HP, but in average you are looking at close to double the price of a B5. And it really seems the B6 can't be modded, so you are virtually stuck with the 340HP, which isn't awful.

My friend is into the 1.8T engines and has a very fast one & is trying to talk me into modding mine - so I have the option of putting $4k to $5k into my A4 and getting close to 400HP. Basically, I can afford and want much more power than the stock 170HP of my 1.8T. Any advice and opinions are appreciated as always. Thanks.

Ya, you mod your car and go big turbo. Or even better, try and find a stage 3 s4. that way almost everything has been replaced. If someone goes stage 3 , you know they have put a lot of time and money into the car. plus k04's area lot more reliable. you can find a well running stage 3 for 17-20K depending on location. And 100+ hp more than a stock b6/b7 isnt that bad either!

If you don't want headaches and worry go with the b6. If you feel like modding go with th b5. Get the s4 over your a4, imo.

 

Man, It's been raining and crappy weather out for the past week. It must be cold when riding! My car is running great. Well it's an S4 so it's got a boost leak I think because it's running rich. And i am replacing the front axle soon. But other than that I let it loose on saturday after the mass pike tolls and it freaking took off like crazy! the fastest thing I have ever been in. 1st gear when it was chipped wasn't that great, but 1st gear pulls like crazy! I gave someone a ride and punched 1st and 2nd, and when I took off all he says was " HOLY ****!" lol. It's soo much faster than my stage 2. $54 to fill the tank Woot! haha

 

good to hear its running decent. mine is in shambles right now. got a HUGE PITA boost leak. i know what needs to be done but im wayyy to busy/lazy right now.

 

can you help me with the boost leak and figure out where it is, if there is one? I'm not sure how to do a leak test.
