How to get to 450whp
Ok, My question is how would you propose to get to 400 to 450whp on pump gas with Ko4s, the reason why is because I want a fast spooling setup. I was thinking about going with AWE's kit, as that seems to be the best kit for ko4s, let me kno if you think other wise.
I have benn looking around and I haven't seen any internal engine mods that are done to s4s, such as a stroker kit or cams or anything of that nature. I would like to beef the engine up in order to keep that fat powerband that the ko4s give without going to a bigger turbo. Are there an alcohol kits out there?
Another side question, are the AWE exhaust manifolds worth it?

Yeah AWE kit should work...
...may want to consider LaBree downpipes for faster spooling - I have AWE and they are great WOT - but for me - they (or the KO4s or in combo) lag more then my KO3s - wich is often noticable around town. I understand that the Labree may allow quicker spool up but may not have as beefy a top end - depends what you are after (in hindsight - for the mount of around town driving I do - I may have rather gone with the LaBree)

probably wont be able to get over 400 hp on pump gas.. even the highest ones i.e. 11secs4 is at like 375 whp on 93 oct i believe and then like 435 on 100. That is unless you went with the GT25r kit.
I was reading 450hp as crank not wheel - my bad...not sure what (traditional) engine mods to the 2.7 might give you this. Maybe a combo of lightweight crank pulleys, FM intercooler and such might help...along with fueling kit like AWE. I don' think what AWE is asking for thier manifold is reasonable...seems as though Vast (not sure) is selling similar manifold for a great deal less. I think there are some nitrous options...certainly the engine itself has been shown to deliver more hp with some radical turbo setups...but I think KO4 seems to max out at mid 500s (crank) even with race gas - from what I've seen others report. I've not dynoed my setup yet but I'd be surprised if I was at 450hp...closer to 400 would be my guess...somwhere in between - thus what mid 300s or maybe a little better to the wheels (love it if it were 400whp - and maybe I'd be surprised...my mechanic seems to think so...)...got to say I still have only rarely opened her up 3rd gear & up - I ussually either run out of road...or nerve...(too many cops in Virginia!)
You live in Virginia huh, where abouts? I live in Southern Maryland. For the GT25 turbo kit im guessing thats for 500 hp to the crank? not to mention that kit is horribly expensive, and it doesn't have that huge power band. Well I konw that the RS4 had different cams, are there any performance cams out there for the 2.7t?
well.. numbers arent totally out yet for that kit. i know a guy in minnesota that is getting that or a gt28 in his avant and they were rumoring the 600-700+ range.. now that is a complete overhaul.. but still. im pretty sure that the gt kit is higher than 500 hp at the crank.. an awe kit is capable of 500 crank on race gas. but that still equates to about 430 at the wheels..awd kills that. not to mention your running much more boost. but yes, its a hefty price tag, but if you want maximum performance thats what you need to do.
Dannger - I'm in Northern VA - not too far from Dulles airport. I get up to MD all the time - though not over to Charles Co or such - if thats what you mean by Southern MD.
My take on the GT28 or other bigger (then Ko4) turbos and higher hp...well we'd all like more power and to be faster...but for those of us where the car is our daily driver - I think other considerations weigh in (if one is being a bit practicle). Even with my current KO4 setup - I am finding it a bit peakier then I would like. Not that the car isn't grerat around town - its just fine - but there is a bit of all or (not quite) nothing to it - where I felt the power from the Ko3s came on earlier and more linear. Its not so bad - but if I had it to do over I think I would have gotten the LaBree dps and considered quicker spool-up options. Just me perhaps...
Autospeed has lightweight cams and I've seen other cam set ups that are more radical (but potentially could do more harm to your engine and/or accesories in the long run)

I held off on the AWE intercoolers - but at one time they definately were in my near term plans. I didn't do them strictly for cost reasons (as I had already gone over budget). Last week - when we had temps in the mid 90s - I was out in Western MD - near Hagerstown - out in the country...and I pushed it - both on some country roads and on I-70...well I was very pleased - didn't seem to overheat at all - oil & coolant - and had only minor (noticlble) heat loss issues - much less then when I was at Stage II...so at this point...I don't see the need - at all - for an intercooler upgrade. I want to caveat this with the fact that one of my single biggest issues has been with heat soak performance degrades...I've noticed them big time (of course)...in the past...but my experience - thus far - is that they have been negligible - with the AWE Ko4 setup. Perhaps with more exposire I will feel differently - but I was very plesently surprised that I seemed to have full boost - or at least very close too it...and at least by seat of the pants - I had rocking power...I did not at all feel this way when I was Stage II - and it was a major concern of mine...
