How to get to 450whp
besides labree downpipes, what other options are out there for quicker spool up, the only thing i can think of is an intercooler spray and nitrious ( I would and will never use that, but i'm just saying) also, do you have the fueling upgrade by awe? as well as the that they have exhaust manifold?
the giac chip is a much harsher power band that spikes much more and isnt as linear. But i can give you a reason for intercoolrs..20-30whp..how about that
i havent heard too much good things about the intercooler spray, nothing really bad, just that it doesnt make much difference. nitrous..dont do it.. not sure what to tell you about quicker spool up.. the turbos themselves spool fairly fast comparitvely to others as they arent that big, but just add a chip, turboback exhaust, and fueling and youll be very happy.

I don't understand how (larger?) intercoolers would account for a 20-30whp increase. All the time? or just with elevated temps? I don't doubt they could make a big difference on very hot days or after very hard running - but why would they give this kind of hp increase all the time. I used to experience noticible drops in hp at stage 2 with heat - however my limited experience thus far in Stage 3 in high heat was that I had pretty much (seat of the pants) just as much oomph as i had on cooler days - still with stock intercooler...so i am wondering if I really need to upgrade it at all. Comments?
well.. because with a more efficient larger intercooler means you cool more air.. when you cool more air you can cram more air through equating to more hp. Its not soo much that youre getting heatsoak on hotter days and eliminating that.. just that on a regular occurance its more efficient than the stock ones.
Seems to me that while you might get more (cool condensed) air with a larger IC - the restrictions in the plumbing itself seem a limiting factor and while an IC might be larger they will only cool as much air as they recieve - additionally while the AWE and other ICs might be larger their increased efficiency might be less then the % of area increase due to limitiations of flow. I don't know - what you say makes sense - but I wonder just how much of an icrease (20-30 whp seems way high) they provide considering limitations in the piping (unless also comensuratly increased)...I easily peak at 20+psi of boost...how would a larger IC change that?
Well, I agree piping can always be a bottleneck. But the stock intercoolers arent as efficient as they could be. But i think you upgrade the piping going to the turbos as well.. But regardless... if you put something there that cools more than the stock..that cool more condensed air means you can cram more air into the same amount of space. Now, i dont know how much the varicances are during certain temps..if you get more whp gain in warmer or colder weather... But ive seen dyno results pre and post intercooler installation and it was usually good for 15-30hp on the dyno. The silva intercoolers that were being made from soemone on audiworld showed consistent 25-30hp on a couple cars.
Cooler air = more HP. That is just simple physics. Of course it all depends on how much cooler? With bigger intercoolers you have a bigger thermal load. This means they will stay cooler longer and cool off faster. This mean less or no heat soak.
Now there is a BIG downside to getting really big intercooelrs. TURBO LAG! Yes, you will get lag if you put in to much intercooler. They create a pressure drop. You have to match the intercooler to the turbo flow & boost. This is why a K04 running stock boost puts down more HP then a k03 at the same boost. It just flows more. SO with a K04 You can over power the stock small intercoolers, so you get big ones and put down a lot more HP. But in a k03 car running stock boost you will get more at WOT, but around town the driveablitly will suffer.
Bigger is only good if you are flowing more air.
It will take a lot to over flow the hoses, thing is there are 2 hoses, 2 turbos, 2 intercoolers, etc... 2 flows more then one. You know 2, 2.25in pipes will flow about 15% more then one 3in pipe. Again if you put in bigger plumbing you will have more of a pressure drop and increase lag. In the S4 you can't really up the plumbing to much, the radiator is in the way, and even with the ARP Bi-pipe the engine fan rubs on it.

Dannger25. I too live in Maryland 20 min. from Annapolis area. Blk/Blk 00' maybe I'll pass you someday on the road. You'll know it's me. I'm usually the one trying to lose the cops. A.A. county 5.0 suck.
Im planning on a FMIC conversion. basically get a fmic that has 2 separate chambers and very little pressure drop but more surface area than the sidemounts. Im getting the piping bent and putting a lip on it, and that should be about it ill let u know if I see a difference.
HOWDY S4 gang members! 450Wheelie HP eh?[&:] Well i'd have to say that I have 480HP Not whp, but i have done the K04 upgrade & piping Giac ecu, light weight flywheel, basicly the whole AWE kit minus the fuel kit and manifolds..... which is really strange because it says "FROM AWE" that i would have 425hp with the FULL RS4 Kit, but its really strange because i've raced a lot of cars that ARE in the 480 HP rang and i stick right with them from "KICK DOWNS" such as a 40-80mph start and i stick right with them and KILL them off the line
...(not that i don't like the out put from it, just very suprised that i have this much gain from what i have done.....) what i have raced? lets see... i have raced a mercaides(sorry my spelling sucks by the way) SL 600-v12 twin turbo, two 300zx twin turbos with MODS,Surbaru STI's(2004-2006) i either beat them pretty good or they stay with me but not for long... bullet bickes 600's hondas, kawi, susiku..... i was only 2 car lengths behind bikes but of course depends on the bike..... BUT if your looking to get the most out of that car like i am trying to do i would defently say to get rid of "A LOT" of weight and the WHOLE AC SYSTEM + the engine fan and get a eletric kit to replace MORE HORSES!, i've did that and i don't even have the AWE FUEL KIT and not to mention that i live in UTAH which is about 5500 feet, ALITUTDE and it PULLS LIKE A BITCH! seriously...... + i've done my own porting and polishing on my exhaust and intake manifolds which may have giving me that extra HORSES, but i just wanted to see how good i was because im not at all expert at this but i guess i have done a pretty good job getting an extra 30-50 + horses...... BUT i do say sir to get the fuel kit from awe and WHATEVER you can to loose that weight and baby you'll fly more than you thought your car could..... i'd say if you got that FMIC or DUH or whatever (BTW: i've heard that AWE made a custom FMIC for someone but maybe thats just a rummer? and it had good gains!) AND Fuel kit from AWE and run 100 OCTAN, i bet you'll be right AT 600+ HP and in the 500WHP........ SO RIGHT ON WITH YOUR 450WHP in these gains, i haven't dynoed my car but my BUTT Dyno says at least 370WHP..... with what i have done but soon i will get my car Dynoed at probably COBB tuning because there is no LOCAL 4 wheelie Dyno SHAME SHAME YES I KNOW..... but I HAVENT even started with some serious power out of these K04's and i have such much more MODS to do to make this thing an RS4 replica! ha ha.... but if you really want to talk to me personal like on MSN Messenger or yahoo or aim????? add me up on all if you want both msn, yahoo is ADIO_BOY_2000@hotmail- yahoo same..... AIM bpskylineguy.... i was going to get one of thoughs... but i am so glad to get AN S4 baby..... much better ha ha.... Feel free to email me with any questions about this ....... use my MSN i check it everyday..... I Hope i have answered your questions clearly and gave you some postive answers..... good day now BYEBryce..... AKA... B-ricer....
