For what it's worth. I bought a 2001 6Spd S4 in December 2002, have put 59K miles on it.

Change the fluids, do the scheduled PM. Turbos are cooled by oil. Nasty old oil isn't going to be good for your turbos (or valvetrain/etc)

Repairs:
8k - headunit CD player quit working.
12k - headunit CD player quit working. (replaced again)
40k - Pothole, screwed up wheel. Replaced with 18" wheels/toyo's
51k - Trip computer display vertical line (fixed it myself, we'll see if it does it again this summer)

58k - "clunk" on passenger side. - working on this. Just ordered parts.
58.1k - tire vibration cause by another pothole (it's been a hard winter)

-----

Just ordered GIAC chip, 710N BPV's, Neuspeed boost controller, tie rod ends, front trailing arms.

Junk I've added/changed

FIS Unit (EFU) Boost gauge. (Pretty cool)
Autospeed Drivline Stabilizer
UUC Shortshift
Momo pedals

Hey guys, little update. I LOVE my s4! I'm starting to do a few exterior mods to make my ride look a little better. I have 20% Tint all around, i received my Kamei Eyelids and will be installing them this weekend. Next week i will be ordering rims and tires, and on March 19th I will be picking up brand new H&R Springs and Bilstein shocks from a local party. Over the summer I will most likely start with the EvoM intake and borla exhaust, and if i feel a little risky i will either go with the GIAC or APR chip tuning. From my understanding, it seems the turbos are more likely to blow with GIAC software, but GIAC software is undetectable whereas APR is. If im wrong, please correct me.

synackack, I've noticed a "clunk" coming from one of the doors on the driver's side. What could this possibly be? I also need to take my car in to get the doorhandle to be worked on for a second time. I also need to fix my drivers seat, it seems a little loose. Did you have any other problems with the raidio? When i have the volume low, i seem to get some type of noise coming from im guessing one of the speakers but i cant figure out which. I guess one is about to blow. Another problem I had once was when it was snowing and about 20* outside, I had the radio on, was driving, and had both my front and rear defrosters on. When i would have the front defroster on, i got some type of loud whining noise coming from the front, and it was loud enough to hear over my radio. Anyone know what might be the problem? I havent heard it since.

Thanks again for the info guys! My next car is definatly going to be a BRAND NEW S4 once i get out of college and stuff.

I just traded my 2001 in after 110K miles. Not one problem. A beautiful and loyal driver. I hope I get as much out of the new '05 S.

I think the point to this is sure a german S4 will have more troubble... but I think my expireance says it all. I am 17 and I had 30k to drop into a new ride, I test drve the STI and was about to buy it when I test drove the S4, The difference is just amazing.... you really can tell why those jap cars are so cheep to fix... they are made of crap

i know this is a dumb question but if the trbos go can u run the car without them until u get turbos or do they need to be replaced right away? How much would a turbo timer cost? Install?
