ko4 turbo question
i gave up the idea of going stage 3 its too much money, but i was thinking, the TT uses ko4s right? so theoretically couldnt you just search junkyards and buy 2 turbos off 2 separate TTs? then buy the piping separeately instead of gettign ripped 6k+ for parts only? or is the left and right one bolt/design different?
i tried searching but couldnt narrow in on a thread

yeah you could use the tt k04's but they would have to be brand new. You cant have two different turbos on a S4. The other problem is the inlets, you would have to rig them up pretty bad to get them to fit. Not to mention it will be a guessing game with fitting them as this is done with the engine out of the car. the way they mount is different from left to right so thats gonna be a mess to fabricate as well. buy the rs4 turbos and save yourself a ton of grief. doing what your asking falls along the lines of "you can do anything you want to a car if you have enough money."
yea i was just curious if the rs4 turbos were simply 2 ko4s off the TT, but i guess there is differences lol
as for how long do ko4s last, my research tells me longer than ko3s which go from 50-150k depending on if cooled down properly. they last longer because they have better internals arent spooled at 100% or soething like that and the ko3s are.

2.7t K04's are matched for flow rates, & the housings are slightly different from the TT
K03's will last if taken care of. There are people out there with over 200kmi on them.
K04's have much lower shaft speeds VS K03's & have bigger input shafts.
Much of the K03 failure is do to over spinning the turbos. Any boost leak will over spool the K03's.
Of course poor maintaince, people doing short trips, and getting in boost when cold, and not letting
the turbo cool down also help killem. Higher boost will also shorten turbo life.
K04's should last a long time if taken care of. But there are few people out there that seam to
kill K04's in a several thousand miles.
