Okay, I'm looking into all the options and I've decided against that B7. The payments would be the same as before, but I think it might be prudent for me to save more money. So, I've just about settled on a V8 Touareg that I found. Pretty different, but it's fully loaded (Nav, adjustable ride height, leather, 19s, etc) and feels like a lateral move. It's got 61k miles, but it has a transferable CPO warranty for another 15k miles and a few months.

I know everyone's on the edge of their seats.

EVERYone I've spoken to here in Houston has assured me that I do NOT want a Touareg. I think I'm still going to test the V8 tonight, but it's probably out of the running based on the tire, brake, electrical gremlin horror stories I've been hearing and reading about.

This isn't fun, I want my Avant back. NOW.

no car is perfect. they all have their gremlins-b5's with the turbos, b6's with the oil consumptions, b7's with their lack of a turbo engine so on and so forth

Well, I sent an email to the owner this morning saying that advice and research had brought me to the conclusion that I couldn't afford the cost of ownership of a Touareg and that a warranty would bring me back into S4 territory and thanks for being will to show me the car, but that I was going to keep looking. He responded that he would drop the price $1500 to cover a new warranty. The car already has a CPO warranty until November and I called VW, they'll extend it for about a grand. With a big warranty, exact reliability seems kind of irrelevant.

That means that I'll be getting a 2004 V8 Touareg with Nav, adjustable air suspension (bags!), leather, brand new tires on 19"s, towing package, premium sound, and more for $14,500. I'll put a deposit down tonight if I like the way it drives.

I drove it. I love it. I'm buying a CPO extension and putting a deposit on it tomorrow.
