Default Looking to buy an S

Hey everyone I am looking into getting an S model Audi. My limit is $10k, so nothing too new, but decent.

I have a few questions about the S models:

What is the best S model to buy?

What is the best year(s) to look for?

I am only 19 so I do not have an unlimited amount of money, I know European cars are well not so cheap and easy to work out. So with that said, what should I look and feel for when I am test driving an Audi?

And if you guys can be honest with me... If I buy an Audi with over 100,000+ miles on due to budget, would that be a good/bad choice, look for another car, or what?

I really like reviews for agility, AWD (I go to the snow a lot) etc. but if the repairs are just too much please be honest

Only 3 ways to afford a b5 S4 either you can work on the car, your parents have a lot of money or you have a lot money. Also, the better years are 2001.5 and 2002 because of stronger tranny and other little upgrades.

Well I can work on the car, that can be learned.. it's the price for the parts is the problem. And I am aware of how often imports break down.

go for it. .. my minor problems cost me barely anthing .. 30 bucks for a tbb .. 500 for a chip that turned it into a ridiculous street car.. 89 bucks off ebay to replace the upper control arms.. tie rods are cheap.. its a hoot to drive. its when you decide to go stage three that the costs really kill you...

Buy 'bottlecap's' S4 he is trying to sell it. It's had some preventative maintenance done including a turbo replacement

as long as all the odd ends are fixed then you shouldn't have a problem. usually ones with 110k or more will have almost any problem fixed (turbos are a MUST). read the FAQ, do some research on other forums (Audiworld) and you'll have enough info to make your own decision on which S4 to buy (I searched for over a year for mine)

Thanks!

I been looking around at S4's today (even though I wont be getting one till February) and found some 2001's with like 130k goin for only 7-9k. Is that about how much they are sellin for or is that oddly low?

Plus for the turbo repair, is that just a one time fix or does it happen often? What are a few expensive repairs I should watch out for? Im really not lookin to spend a couple grand on repairs any time soon

seems about right for an 01, and if it's an 01.5 then it's a good deal considering they changed a lot of the common problems for that model.

the turbos life is more driver oriented, i've heard of some failing as low as 45k (they were being pushed at 20 psi; the limit is about 15 or 16) and as high as 160k miles. if the car is left stock, they'll last a long time; it's when you begin chipping and running higher boost that they weaken much quicker.
