B5 all the way. like the others say just make sure you count in the money you'll probablyspend on getting things fixed into your budget

https://www.audiforums.com/m_704432/tm.htm Here is what I'm selling the price is right. plus you'll have money left for services but I did all the necessary services like the tbb water pump , cts, G12, tranny and diff oils new. and new tires that sets you for another 100k with just oil changes other than the tires unless you make it that far. Of course if you're in the east getting here will be tricky.

My price range is within the B5 generation only. My question is, would you recommend a certain B5 year over another? Would you prefer a 1999, 2000, or 2001 for any particular reason?

Thanks in advance.
I too am in search of the perfect 2001.5/2002. I stumbled across this post while doing "homework". It appears to outline some of the existing known problems of the S4. Good luck.

Well im going to be getting an s4 pretty soon and im looking for either a 00 or 02 model, the reason being is because im gonna go stage 3 when i get it and race with it. also the 00 models and 2002 models weigh about 3500 pounds and the 2001 s4 weighs about 3800 pounds i dont know why but i looked on autotrader.com and i looked at the model info search button and it tells you the cars curb weight and everything. but i heard that the 2001 and 2002 have a better air flow sensor then the 00 models.

I seriously doubt that only one year weighs 300 lb more than the other same-generation years.

Yeah, I have to call BS on the 01 weighing 300lbs more, I think your source is pulling your leg.

As for the model year change, I believe in October of 2001 (should mark the 2001.5 model) the size of the oil inlet to the turbos was increased thus improving the efficiency of cooling and lubrication of the turbos. I think Audi recognized the fact that the K03s are too small for the 2.7L engine and did everything they could to keep the turbos from failing prematurely. So, in a perfect wolrd, a 2001.5+ would be the best deal. But no matter what, the stock K03 turbos are too small and will most likely need replacing at some point in time, it might just be later on with models 2001.5+
