I have been hanging around this forum for the last week or so. I am looking into getting a 2000 S4. I think I am going to go for it, but before I do I am trying to do a little homework. There are two known problems with the car, and I am just going tocopy and pastehis exact words to me:

1) The CEL comes on intermittently indicating the Catalytic Converter orO2 Sensor may need changing out. This has been going on for years and has not effected the car's performance so I have not done anything about it. The light will go off for a month or two and then come back on.

2) Also, the ABS Brake light has intermittently come on recently. I had this checked out and its the ABS Controller - an electronic component that controls the ABS system. It has no effect on the regular operation of the brakes, but the lights a bit annoying so it probably should eventually be taken care of.

Thats the whole story. The car is overall in very good shape and drives great.

So anyways these two things are the only ones that are holding me back for the moment. He has it priced at 12,500 and I am going to try and get him down anyways. My question for you guys is, trouble ahead if I purchase this particularS4?

 

It has 139K miles like 85% highway, 6 speed, he said he brought it into Prestige and thats what the verdict was.

 

I asked him about the timing belt he said it has been replaced. He has all the service records as well.I haven't seen the car in person yet, Im almost hesitant because its a good 40 mile drive from me. I visited the S4 FAQ and printed off the buyers checklist and will take that with me when I test drive it.
