Default Looking to switch...

Right now I'm in a '02 TT, but looking for more power and space.

Thinking about finding a 2000-2002 S4 and I was hoping for some help on what to look for while I'm searching.

Thanks in advance.

read the FAQ link at the top, then ask more definitive questions.

Since you're already a member of the Forums...

The ideal S4 would be something unmodded with a good clean title. If it's over 60k miles than you'll want to make sure the timing belt has been done or that they take $1,100 off or so for the TB. Also "duh" you'll want it to be in good repair. No boost leaks. No Throttle Body Boot tears (under the hose clamp). The DVs should be functioning correctly etc. Check all the lights including the Hazards (sometimes a pesky little $35 part goes out on the hazards). It would be nice if the clutch was already done too. Also check for sludge on the oil dipstick. That could indicate organic oil has been used or it's been abused in the oil department

If I was looking for a B5 S4 I'd be looking for a 2001.5+ with < 70k miles that's had the timing belt done and is super clean. I'd expect to pay around 17k but be happier than a puppy with two peters to pay 13k or 14k.

Happy hunting.

Good points^^

one question would be: What are you looking for in this car? daily driver? weekend car? track machine??? [8D]

If it's the most 'reliability' I would say find one that has all maintanence records, under 80K, timing belt done, and stock. replace the stock DV's and TBB if not done already.

for some extra power- add an exhaust (and dp's if u want) and a ,free to very cheap, darintake.

IMO- i think a chip, although it adds great power, does affect the turbo life... if the k03 is at 8-10psi stock and then it's modified to double that, it will reduce the life of the turbo.my opinion tho. also i have read that the 2.7 motor may be to big for the small k03. and k04's are just right

now im getting off topic and completely forget what this thread was about!! lol

ok.. stfa too!

Personally i wouldnt buy a lower milage s4 unless it was <30k, cause somehting at 60k that is in great condition will still need a good portion of maintenance done in the next 30kmiles. TB job, brakes, suspension especially upper CA's, wheelbearings, TRE's, i owuld almost rather have a stong running S4 that has 105k miles and has had all those things replaced in the past 10kmiles, just because most of us know the Engine is amazing and rarley fails. Its just the turbos, and if u buy a S4, going with K04's is always on your mind. Even if its your DD.
