Default Loss of steering

so if finals aren't stressful enough when i pulled into my university today, as i was going through the parking lot i heard a clunk and immediately lost my power steering, A battery light came on on the dash and i pulled it into a spot. Im home now but my dad is going to go back tonight with me to look at it. From what people told me they thought it was my alternator belt. But im not sure anyone have any ideas what i should look for when i go back tonight?

I'm assuming you're brakes arnt working either, or at least they arnt "powered". First things first and check the power steering pump and if the belt is on it or if you sheared the shaft.

The brake booster is powered by manifold vacuum and a diaphram, not a belt driven pump. So brakes wouldn't be affected by a belt problem.

BTw loopin if your tensioner snapped you might want to do the timing belt if you havent done it.
