Lowering Heigh. Wheel gap. ect.
Hey all. I was looking on the Vogtland site for springs as I'm looking to bring the S4 down to clean up the look and shed some of that gap in the fender.
I'm also looking to pick up some 18' B5 RS4 reps from www.lakeshorewheelandtire.com
Vogtland says that their B5 S4 spring lowers from 30mm-60mm Is that a good lowering level for $250? and will this fill the gap nicely? I just don't have the money to go for coil overs specially with my shopping list to go through before July (Waterfest) about 7 hours + from here.
shopping list: ('01 S4. 81k)
1) Timing belt/ Water pump
2) 18' B5 RS4 reps w tires
3) SSAC exhaust (is available)
4) Exhaust Gas tempeture sensor.
5) New 6,000k watt xenon bulbs from ECS.
So I got some work to do. any help is much appreciated.

Get the COIL OVERS! You will be much happier! Chances are when you pull off the springs, you will find at least one blown shock, or you will blow a shock in a couple of hundred miles, then have to buy new ones, costing more then if you just purchased the Votgland CO kit in the first place.
BTW, that combo looks SIC! See sig

I have a B7 but I think the idea is the same. I brought the back down by about 1.5" and the front about .5". Since I did the adjustable CO's, we could actually measure from the ground up and get it exactly where I wanted it. I agree with the comments above about spending more and doing it right. do it right the first time and get coiloversso you dont have a problem down the road. Sacrifice something from the list like the timing belt... who needs a timing belt?

I agree with these guys about the coilovers. If you change springs, you'll HAVE to change out your shocks eventually, whether you like it or not. So, you'll be shelling out $700-$800 for shocks + springs, when you could have just spent $1200 on a set of quality coilovers. I know, $400 is still a big difference, especially if you're doing other stuff, but in the end it'll be worth it, especially if you value being able to tune your suspension.
If you still can't swing thecoilovers, do the springs, but switch out the shocks, too. It'll be a significant mistake to just go withlowering springs, since the stock shocks aren't meant to compensate for lowering springs, so you'll:a) Destroy the stock shocks and b) Have the ridequality of an ox-cart.
Either way you go, do it RIGHT. Doingcoilovers isn't necessarily "the onlyright way", it's just the "more expensive right way."[sm=smiley36.gif]
Thanks for all the input guys. I really appreciate it. What about the Vogtland springs with the bilstein sport shocks? I can save with combos. just not aftermarket coilovers.
(I work at an Audi,Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz shop.) So I can get bilstein and Eibach stuff for real cheap.
