lowering my 01 s8
i dont want coilovers. i want to lower it an inch. does anyone know what springs work? and does anyone really believe coiloversdontmessup your alignment every time you tweek it? i found intrax for a8s but an 1.5 from that height might not do anything. please help!
i think that airsuspension firsthappened in 04. another thing that bothers me with the thought of lowered cars shocks getting played prematurely is bull .new shocks have the same travel as the stock ones, they dont make shocks shorter and enginneered just for people who lower their cars. when you order konis with your springs you get the same shock as a stock height car.

On to the shock thing. Stock shocks are made to work with in a certain travel range. After miles & miles they get worn in to that range. So most of the time when you put new springs on old shocks, they tend to not last to long. Also since almost all lowering springs have a higher spring rate, they are no longer matched to the shock. When you change the spring rate, you also need to change the compression & rebound of the shock.
There are short tube shocks. Bilstein Sports are the same as Bilstein HD, except for the fact that the HD have a longer travel. The sports have a shorter shaft. Most coil overs, & shock systems will be shorter then stock. Lowered cars do not have the same shock travel unless they use shorter shocks with enough compression of the spring.
Most shock/spring combo's will be engineered for lowering. You might want to look at the Sach Sporting kit, or Touring Kit. Matched spring/shock, not a lot of drop.
Yes, any time you change the ride height, you should have the alignment checked. However, if you only change ride height 1/8 or so, nothing much is going to change, just a little more or less toe & camber (camber usually isn't adjustable).
Why don't you want coil overs? You set em where you want em, get the car aligned, then leave it alone. The big benefit, is you can get the car corner balanced, it will handle much better!
i have a 01 s8. shock absorber, absorbing shocks ,bumps and stuff. a new vette goes down the road. later this vette gets lowering springs, it goes down this road for 20,000 miles, thisvette has a friend that has the same vette with 20,000 miles on the same road with a stock suspension.does the lowered vette have played out shocks? does koni or bilstein really make a shock just for my lowered car?

maybe the auto world is trying to tell me i need firm sportier shorks to absorb my firmer less forgiving coils. the only cars out there that i see that sits right and have allmost no gap between the tire and fender is m3s and maybe m5s. their suspensions are sporty but still relitively drivable with comfort and great handling.
