what kind of tips are you expecting to hear..? The thread is very open ended.

Regarding the tight fit, and time/effort to custom fit and manufacture most of the time proven solutions from vendors are the better route. If your car is a one off, or your making/test solutions then fabication is perhaps the option for you.

Are you looking to make out of mild steel or stainless? 304L is very common stainless, you can also get better grades of stainless. 16 guage is a common wall thickness...

yeah this is a preety blunt question..

what do you want to hear??

obviously you can make your owm pipes and stuff but the s4 is alot more complicated then a honda or ford..

downpipes you might wanna read about cause its not something you can just bend pipes and weld flanges and put them on and be doen with it..there is alot more to it..the 02's have to be relocated and you need to foul out a couple it is a pretty difficult process ..look at this link and it tells you how to do it..

good luck..

well ok this is what im thinking i wan t to use a 2 in 1 out fmic and i will be relocating the mass and changing the bi pipe so i can use only one diverter

what are your thoughts? and remember i have almost unlimited resorces because of the line of work im in which is the stainless steel bus. my father own the company and i operate a shear anyways

the reason i chose to make parts instead of buy is money parts cost a lot of money and i can weld and bend and fab stuff better than most, im not saying better the the companies selling these products just everyone else

Jrodin - If you are trying to make an intercooler out of stainless that would probably be the first one ever that I have ever heard of or seen.

Don't take this offensive, perhaps you should take a class in metallurgy, and learn a little bit about different metals, and why different types of metals are used for different stuff.

Using stainless, IMO, is probably stupid because of the properties that stainless holds. Stainless does not disperse heat well, if I recall from my classes and metallurgy books/manuals… It goes something like this…

Copper = 1.0 (best thermal heat transfer)
Aluminum = 0.60
Stainless = 0.04

If you have welded on other materials, you probably have seen this. When I weld aluminum the entire piece heats up really quickly and it doesn’t matter if the piece is 10 foot long the WHOLE piece is smoking hot. As for stainless, I can weld a 2 foot piece for a minute, and then pick up the other end and it will only be warm.

So you can see that choosing Stainless for an object like an intercooler which needs to transfer heat would not be a good idea. Perhaps copper would be better, but I’m sure that copper is more expensive and doesn’t look as pretty, but that does pose an interesting question, why aren’t any intercoolers made out of copper?

Well, I hope that helps, where is your pop’s shop? Do you guys do one off custom mandrel bending for exhaust? In a few months or so, I will probably need to have a custom one off set of down pipe made, I’m having them dup after the front tires… hehe…

Merry Christmas,

Shawn
