Fair enough this is my first post. when I bought the car all i did was read this forum, never really felt the need to write. i understand your skeptisim. I really did love that S4 and do feel it was a once off thing. Hence I bought an A3 3.2v6 cos I didnt want to shell out the money for the S4 again. If you dont call that loyalty...(most of my friends called it stupidity that i bought another audi). Just wanted to see if anyone had ever heard of it happening to an S4 or similarly powered car. Just to elaboate on the incident. I had an automatic transmission. It was in sport mode at the time. I had floored tha accelerator so as to pass out another car. I heard a bang. Check engine light came on as i lost power. When I pulled over a guy had followed me and told me that he saw flashes of light underneath the car. When I got out a small fire underneath the front right of the engine proceeded to grow. Eventually the whole engine area went on fire (this is within 2 mins of the bang). Called the fire department and they put it out. I did get all my money back, but no explanations.....
Fair enough, and i guess to answer that question, is no. I persoanlly have never heard of this happening not only to an S4, but any Audi.....or any modern car for that matter. That is not to say it doesnt....... it happened to you, but like you said, one-off incident. Someone has to get that one-off dealt to them right?
I would had asked ofr an RS4 though [&:]

Well i have questioned quite a few people. Still have never recieved an explanation. I have been told by quite a few dependable people that audi will avoid giving me any explanation as this woild only point blame in their direction. Understandable i suppose. I did absolutely love the car. I am not going to sue them as i understand that one in a 1000 can be a crappy car. I really just wanted to see if it was more common then i thought and if so was there a bigger fault that we didn't know about.
It really stinks that your car blew up on you. I went looking for other posts on other forums that talked about this same type of problem and didn't find anything. Good for you for not suing. Only pussies sue when they have no real injury. That kind of thing can give you bad karma ta boot.
Maybe be bought the S4, saw that the A3 was coming out, realized that insurance, maintenance, gas prices, etc. were biting him in the ***, so he decided to sabotage his S4 so that he could downgrade to the A3 and have some extra money left over...hmm.
