Default navigation questions (RNS-E, RNS-D)

Fellas,

Does the European model audi navigation work on US models? Do you have to get the US DVD or somethin?

I found a bunch of units on ebay but I'm not sure if they will fit in B5 s4 or not.

Here are a couple examples:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-Navigation-Plus-RNS-E-for-A4-LIKE-NEW_W0QQitemZ300016045300QQihZ020QQcategoryZ38653Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem'

Would I need the A6 unit to fit in 2000 s4?

I'm new to this whole navigation plus thing. I want one badly and am willing to make minor modifications, I just don't want to be cutting up half the dash. I also don't know how to tell if the unit will fit or not, or where to get a harness for it, etc.

All help is appreciated greatly!! I'm such a noob []

Ok

The Nav doesnt play the cd, the stacker does and the radio+cd info is diaplyed on the Nav monitor, the Nav has the cd slot for the cd rom for the Nav mapping in the RNS-D

Its great to have but is a fair bit of work and expect to pay a fair bit for labour if u dont do it u self

U are goin to need the double din dash, Nav unit, harness(s) Nav antenna etc and there is more i just cant remember now...

If u are goin to go the "whole hog" then i would go for the RNS-E this requires the existing car harness(s) to be modded, where as the RNS-D once u have the rite hardware its generally a plug + play

The guys who have put the RNS-E in the B5 have found the the unit is a tad smaller than the RNS-D coz the dash in the B6-B7 is a bit diff: so u end up with gaps either side once installed

U can hook the I-Pod up too and the Audi PhatBox

Check out these sites 2

http://www.nav-plus.com/index.html

http://www.navparts.com/shop/

http://www.navplus.us/

And some one on AW did the RNS-E in the B5 and has done the rite up in the Tech bit so check it out

Good luck bro?

i always thought it was the rns-e units you wanted..but youd have to custom fab a dash thing to have it fit nicely without little gaps.. but i dont know.. i dont know nav/electronics very well. Check out taht navplus site..ive been there they have all the info you could ever need.

Go for RNS-E instead of D. You won't regret it.
http://navplus.us ... several sellers sell the complete kit plug and play for either models. Simplest installation ever.
Try alex@proxus.com ... and if u live nearby chicago area, he charges 100bucks for installations, which ain't too bad.
B5 S4 takes A6 RNS-E units with little or no modifications. On occasions you may need to trim the bottom piece of faceplate.
You can play MP3's on RNS-E by using SD Cards, if u don't have any external source hooked up yet.
