Need help - what happened
So today I went to get the summer wheels mounted, went to gym, etc came back home, all was fine. I go to start her up about an hour ago - battery light is on and my power steering is shot. From the search button - it sounds like a belt issue correct? All other things electrically are fine. Had it towed and a mechanic at local Audi dealership is nice enough to look at it for me tomorrow. I have a 2000 S4
I'm not sure about damage. Did the belt break, do you know? If it did break while the engine was on you most definatly would have noticed a belt flying off at over 1k rpm, and then you might have some damage. But if it broke when the engine was off you will be fine damage wise most likely. Did you look under the hood to see if your belt was on?
Yeah you would lose your power steering, your brakes and so on. I't just sounds like you have a bad PS Pump. You can get one off ecs for around $250, and you can save a ton of money if you can wrench.
if its the PS Pump would that cause the Battery Light to come on? my volt meter wasn't jumping around, that was constant right in the middle. i had the air turned off and didn't think to check to see if i had that. just didn't have power steering. it was at that point i called the tow truck to have it towed. tried starting it up a couple times, revving it to see if battery light would go off but had the same symptoms. figured at that point it would be easier said than done finding someone to fix this anytime before the holiday but luckily my buddy at the audi dealership said he'd check it out first thing tomorrow morning.
