new to forum
hey, im new to the forum, just purchased a 2000 s4 with 130k on it. any advice on problems that i may run into and have to service on the car soon? water pump and timing belt maintenance has been done 15k ago. does anyone have a wiring diagram for the rear speakers? im trying to keep my sound system stock besides adding an amp and subs. ive also noted a slight oil leak on the front passenger side of the engine compartment.. looks like the valve cover gasket. any other ideas? and are there any really cheap upgrades that turn great results? my other car is a 2000 volvo t6 and its been chipped and exhaust work done, and its a hoot to drive. im gonna start doing same stuff with the s4, so any advice would be appreciated...
The leak is most likely valve cover gasket, but I'm not a guru. You can do the darintake mod, not HUGE results but cheap to do. Idk if the CV boots have been replaced lately but the higher the miles the more likely they may go bad. My car's got 142,xxx and not really any problems have come up since I bought it. Knock on wood. I'm sure other people on here will have far better advice than me. Hope you enjoy the car!
I too have 130k on my 2K S4, Bought it in 2004 w/100k for $17k. since I had to get a new clutch, valves cleaned and aligned, gaskets, steering rack, master cylinder, timing belt w/pulleys, CV boot, coolant reservoir, hoses(plumbing), electric window motors, brake lights go out every year, Bose speakers blew, that I can remember off the top of my head. Then there are the performance mods....yup its a money pit.....but I love my car. Stage 2
yeah, ive never had this much fun driving a car, and i have a chipped t6 s80 with about 320 bhp and 360 ft. lbs. of torque.. easily gets to 150 but this audi clings to the road like nothing else. i cant wait to chip it..
AYE! watch out for those turbos! With 130k i cant see them lasting very long, especially if you chip it and double the boost. Turbos are one of the most expensive repairs and are known to go any time after 60k or so unless the car has really been babied. Its a pretty expensive fix and happens to almost every car during its life. Look forward to this one....
Oil leaks are pretty common on higher mileage cars, especially valve covers. some suspension may need to be checked and replaced at higher mileage, synchros tend to **** the bed on manual cars. Then there are tons of little problems, some people get em all, some people get to 200k with origional turbos and no problems. Its good that the T-belt is out of the way though.
A chip, exhaust, and darintake on the s4 bring you to Stage 2 which is a boat load of fun. If you like the car now the chip and exhaust make it a whole new animal.

Oh ya the stock "BOSE" stereo isnt the best, theyre all cheap paper speakers and if you replace them with OEM you will probably blow them again in 6 months. Im on my second set all around and for my third im just going aftermarket. Thats what i reccomend
I agree with HP the stock speakers to crap out on you if you like to crank the tunes. I would recommend some alpine speakers as a good aftermarket entry speaker. as to the wiring you can google a diagram I'm sure. Also I agree with HP on saying those turbos might go soon, if you see white smoke and the car isn't going anywhere fast thats what has happened. I was talking to a friend of mine who only had a chip and was running 13's so I recommend doing that first if money is an issue. and when your turbos' go you have a few good options of upgrades that anyone, with a Stg 3 car would recommend doing.
Congratulations on the new S!

yeah... well noticed some cable and wires after checking out my spare. and.. sweet!!! this beast is already prewired. preouts. power . ground.. all ready to go.. throw my old box and amp in there.. 2 12 inch jbls and the factory system doesnt sound too bad now..lol.. and yes im ready for the apr tune which the local audi will do for 600... 318 bhp, 382 ft. lbs. of torque.. and im sure with a k&n filter itll do a little better.. now im wondering where i can get some factory 17s or some cooler RS4 rims.. does any body have a cool website where i can get a hook up on some rims that will bolt right on?? my 17s are starting to chip and i want it to look fresh.. i really like the RS4 rims...
okay.. and both of my valve covers are leaking.. it seemed as though it was mostly the passenger side, and now im getting leaks from the left side as soon as i did the passenger one.. does that sound right? does any one think that i have a pcv clog or something? whats the best way to see if the pcv is working properly on these? i guess ill just follow the tubes coming from the covers to the intake.. and i guess that ill check for flow or gunk build up.. and does anyone know stock turbo boost psi? and then if you get an apr mode what does it raise the boost to??
