Default New S4 Owner

Just introducing myself and am new to Audi. After being a die-hard Ford owner all my life, I picked up a black/black 2001 S4 Avant and am very impressed so far. Had to go with a tip and that is taking some getting used to, every time I come to a stop my left foot keeps looking for the clutch pedal.

A couple questions...The car barely stays in first gear for long, is this normal? It happens in both auto and tiptronic mode. Any tip advice would be appreciated. Looks like a chip will give me the best bang for the buck. Anyone else out here in CA have problems running 91 octane?

Hi Wolfie351, welcome to the forums. You may want to invest in an apr or giac chip, and a giac tip chip for faster shifts.

if you push the accelerator all the way down hard past the soft floor, it stays in first til about 6000 rpm in tip...
Where are you in Cali? I'm in San Diego and just got a 2001 s4

Yeah, getting used to it a bit. I'm beginning to think turbos and autos don't mix very well. Either that or I'm used to having a little more low end torque. I'm enjoying it though. Oh, and I'm in the Bay Area.

hmm...

To the original poster. The tip is going to shift from first to second like that. It is programmed to do so. You can get a tranny chip to alter that though like Jest said.

If you look in your manual, it says something about the 1-2 shift in tiptronic. If you dont give it much gas in first it will automaticly shift to conserve gas.
