Thanks fellas.

I am trying to do this on the most cost effective basis. I will be selling a load of parts from my car, including cams, heads, turbos, inlets, turbo-back exhaust, intercooler, diverter valves, manifolds, intake, samco hoses, yada yada yada...after that I hope to only need to front about 2-3k for the project.

BTW the cost of a single big turbo is about half the cost of 2 tiny K04's. Not to mention the reliability of a Garrett turbo is better than Borg Warner.

I love the idea of the accessibility for the single turbo, but I always thought it was unrealistic due to the cost of fabricating custom manifolds needed to re-route the exhaust/turbo setup. Has your buddy mentioned to you what it might cost if you were to pay retail for the manifolds? You have my attention here

My fabricating hook up said he would do the custom manifolds with a turbo-back exhaust for 2500. Several other people I know have expressed interested in the manifolds as well. If he is making more than 1 set, I am sure the price for the setup would be slightly lower.

One my main concerns is protecting the wiring and lines the run between the motor and the firewall. There will be a significant amount of heat back there, so heat wrapping/thermal coating the manifold and covering some of wiring will be necessary.

On the other hand, you could potentially run a single turbo along the lines of 3071 and you wouldn't have to run rods or 2.8 heads/cams etc.

But considering that my engine is already torn apart, I am going to save myself the time and do all the upgrades. I also plan to run a large turbo, and the amount of power I hope to put down will require some fresh internals.

Quick update. Things are coming along slowly but surely. The entire car was towed from NJ to Rhode Island. Well, almost the entire car. A few pieces fell back (bumper, bumper shocks etc.)

The heads are all done/built and will get picked up from the machine shop in time. The block was dropped off at the machine shop to get hot tanked, decked etc.

Here are some pics of the goodies. You can see the weight of the pistons being off by 2-3 grams. That will be dealt with in the next couple of days. They will be balanced to within a gram.

Pauters sittin pretty

Dear god what a job and task to be done. Great to hear a fellow wrencher taking a unique twist, not only that but doing the set-up and parts list yourself. Bravo.
