Default Newbie Questions for S4 owners

I am new to these cars but read about their potential to go fast with few mods. I am looking for a daily driver that I can eventually get in the low 13's 1/4 mile. Most of the write ups I see for this car (B5 S4) are the 6 sp stick, I got a family and wanted to get the auto how will that affect my goals to mod it? Do most mods for the stick work on the auto? How much slower are the autos. I know for other cars when they are boosted and dragged raced many prefer the auto for consistency, is this auto built robust?

Thanks

You can easily get this car into the 13's with either tranny, but it wont last long with the auto. the auto tranny is very weak and will need to be built. even built it fails quite often under high hp. You shouldnt need that much hp to hit your 1/4 mile goals. A good custom stage 2 ecu tune, down pipes, exhaust, water meth and a tip chip should get you there if not very close.

Most mods available for the 6-speed are available for the auto as well. Differential upgrades are NOT available for autos.

I will let you know this week what a auto with light mods will do. My buddy talked me into going to the track this Saturday. My car is a B5 S4 auto with a GIAC X chip with gutted cats and resonator delete with stock muffler. I also have the air box mod,Vast boost controller to control boost spikes and I also have the GIAC Tip chip. I want to get a base line at the track before I go any farther on the mods. So as long as everything goes rite this week I will post my time Sunday so you have a idea.

Im running 18psi with spikes controlled at 22psi. My boy ran into some problems with his procharged 383 Cutlass so we might not be going. If he can get his car straight by Saturday morning we will go if not we will just push it to another day.

whats the point of running a boost controller if youre still allowing boost spikes? I thought the whole point was to eliminate boost spikes by setting the controller for the tuned psi.

Yeah it is. But I live in metro detroit and getting it fine tuned around here ain't easy. Fine tuning it will be done at the track not on a busy freeway. I don't know if you seen my threads where I just replaced the turbo's cause I picked up the car with a shot passenger side turbo. Sorry to derail the thread and maybe someone else can chime in and help this guy with his questions. Hoping to get to the track and if I do I will post my #'s.
