oil leak from driver turbo
Not a hundred percent sure, but was told today that I may have oil leaking from my driver side turbo. Was told by the local audi dealership that it was cam tensioner seal though. Any input on how to know if its the turbo or not before I go in and have it looked at again, just trippin a bit now... Car has 48k, and im very careful to warm up and cool down.
well if the turbo is leaking then the intake tubes will be full of oil... if its the cam adjuster seal then itll be leaking on to your exhaust and youll have smoke billowing out from the fender wells at a stop light...i had the latter. and valve cover gaskets and cam adjuster seals later no smoke.. so if you have a visible leak its not the turbo i think.. out the tail pipe could be.. oil burning in the catalyst and other parts of the exhaust...
so i do have smoke coming out of the general area. its usual only the first few minutes the car warms up. I also thought it was leaking onto the exhaust. My passenger sider tensioner seal is leaking for sure... Im not a mechanic, but can hold my own when it comes to understanding what is happening. Could the driver side problem possibly be a return line or something dripping from above onto the turbo making it look like the turbo leaking?
no.. return line is on the very bottom.. cam adjuster seal is very common.. on ebay you can get a cam adjuster seal holder(not sure if its called that.) . and do the job in half the specified time..id just say get valve cover gaskets and cam adjuster seals and not worry about it ever again...
ya..das is da tool for de task... just be careful not to keep screwing it in further and further.. the clearance you have will be minimal but you can do it in that space.. ive done mine and bingo.. no more leaks.. but just dont expect to have like 3 inches of space to clean it all off and reinstall.. and you might have to turn the cams in a certain direction to take up chain slack...
cam seal?? or cam adjuster seal.. if you do the cam adjuster seal then thats the tool. but if you need to do a cam seal then you need the big long iron bar to lock the cams in place, in other words youd be doing a timing belt.. and then just take off the cam cogs and replace the seals..
