Default Ordered a 2006 S4

Audi Crew-

My wife and I just ordered her a 2006 Audi S4 with the new frontend. It should be here sometime in August, we hope. Does anyone have any experience/ advice about the S4? This will be our first Audi, but having been looking at them for quite sometime. What are the popular places to get aftermarket items for these cars? I know that the 2006 is a redesign and the aftermarket will take a while to catch up, but just curious. Thanks for the help.

Dan,

I believe the 2006 S4 (B7) is essentially the same mechanically as the 2005 S4(B6.) Having said that, there are several popular after market companies that have a few items for this car. Most of them sell exhaust, intake kits, brake kits, suspension, software flash (chips) and that sort of stuff.

Here are a few of my favorites.

AWE-Tuning
Stratmosphere
GIAC

Hope this helps.

So the 2006 is coded as a B7. Why and how is this coding important? I've owned several vehicles, including the Ford Truck I own now and although I know it was a "1st Generation" Supercrew, I've never been asked for the "generation" when I buy things for the truck. Is there a time when I need to know it is a B7? Or is that just Audi trivia? Thanks in advance for the help.

Dan,

The coding addresses time periods. The B6 is 2001-2005, and yours is the B7. The codings are necessary because they are different body sytles and different engines. I believe that you share the same engine as the older S4 which is a V8. By older I mean 2004. I believe the suspension is different. Here is a link for you to read about your car.

Well,

My wife and I have owned our S4 Avant since new in 2001. It has the 2.8 L Twin Turbo, and six speed. The car has not had one single repair issue.

It is still blindingly fast and not sure if upgrading to the V8 would/could make this car anymore fun.

We prefer the Avant wagon for its utility and the fact that adults are a tight fit in the back seats (certainly on the 01 sedans).

In 01 there were only 270 of the S4 Avants imported thus it is a really rare car. Nagamo (sp) blue with the blue suede seat inserts.

Yep, we love this ride.

I also just ordered an S4 and was wondering what type of Winter Tire is the best for this car. I am from New Jersey and was told I needed a different set, but the Audi people would not recommend a tire. Thanks for your help!

As for snow tires, most of them are the same. Most of the major manufaturers make them. Just make sure that when you are looking you make sure they are performance snow tires. This would include tires like the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22, Pirelli Winter 210/240 Snowsport, and Dunlop Winter Sport M3. I ran the Bridgestones on my Infiniti G35 Coupe for the last 2 winters and they did amazing in the snow. Can't wait to try my S4 in the snow.
