overheating
I am not necessarily experiencing the same problem, however it is kind of similar. I have a 2000 S4, stock except for Borla pipes, and I notice that my coolant is low in the resevoir. I had driven the car for 11 hours straight and didn't notice until i stopped to check to check the oil level. The engine temp never moved from cold for the entire trip and it was 70-75 degrees that particular day. Any comments? Also can I put any type of red coolant in the resevoir? Thanks, I appreciate any help.

Hey thanks alot man, I appreciate it. Do you think thatI can make another 10 hour trip if i continue to maintain an eye on the coolant level where it is, it is approx. an inch above min.(it would be in 25-30 degree weather)? I know that there is coolant already stored within the engine, andI have heard stories of guys who have filled above min. and experienced an overflow when the system starts to circulate. That is why I am apprehensive to fill the coolant level much higher. Any thoughts? Also should Ibe able to add any sort of red coolant/antifreeze or should it be specific to the car. Thanks alot, I do alot of my own maintenance, I'm rather young and I enjoy hearing the feedback from other guys, whether it be about oil changes or rotating my tires.

know what, my apologies, the coolant level is actually approximately an inch below the mininum line. I would like to fill it up to the min line, and maintain a close eye on it during my trip, however what type of coolant should I put in there before I get driving? I am a little apprehensive about using distilled water, as I am in an area where it has been below freezing for the past few days. Thanks alot, I appreciate all of your help 2k s4.
