By-pass valves

I have an '01.5 S4 w/63K on it and I just had to replace the by-pass valves. Is this common considering the mileage?

yes very common, they are prone to failure.

I've heard that some owners regularly swap out old DV's for new ones every 20K. They just keep putting in stock DV's. At the low price of OE, they don't spend nearly as much as we have on our aftermarket DV's until they have swapped out for the 3rd or 4th time. It may sound excessive, but for them, it seems to work.
