okay guys, so i went out last night with vagcom and a buddy on a low traffic highway and did some acceleration logs. i played it safe and when another set of headlights showed up i let off, so there were plenty of busted runs.... and im trying to get used to launching this car, as well as a different torque curve then the K03 powered APR tuned car i used to have. so with a conservative preliminary EPL tune running way too rich, as well as a bad syncro between 1 and 2.. here are some numbers..
0-60 mph----- 4.9 sec
0-100 mph----10.8 sec
best ET--- 12.7 @ 94mph (i had already started slowing down due 2 cars)
best trap speed---- 111 mph @ 13.3 ( had a horrible launch, syncro really gave me problems on this one)
im not sure how accurate vagcom is, so im guessing once i wideband tune and actually go to the track, the numbers should be much better..

Sounds like you need to put that southbend clutch to use some more and drop that bad boy from at least 4 thousand. Those 034 mounts can handle it, but 4.9 does sound really low, should be more like 4.1. But its a good start, you can keep working it, so congrats for now !! Oh and your build post is very interesting, keep up the good work and get those kinks out haha
yep.. just talked with tony@EPL, we are going to wait to fine tune till i get my meth in a month or so.. that may take a few log sessions.. but i got a wideband and vagcom to see whats going on in the ole combustion chambers.. so were gonna get this baby fine tuned as perfect as possible, and as close to 470 whp as we can.. it just hurts me to drop the clutch like that.. unbelievable it can take it... hey, if i get some vp100 fuel and splash a couple of gallons or so in with good ole 93, it should run much better or do i have to fine tune it for that as well??

I know how you feel about the clutch, its a hard thing to do to something you care about every time. As far as trying to make like a 95 or 96 oct don't do it, you would definitely need a tune for that, it would make you run rich. Same concept as us chip guys needing a 93 program (pump) and a 103 oct (race) for race gas.
rich is a term that describes any mixture of air and fuel for combustion that is fuel biased(that being anything less than 14.7 to 1). just because an octane rating is higher does not mean that. higher octane means less volatile fuel, better for higher compression with less chance of pre-detonation. pre-detonation or pinging, low octane fuel combusting when not planned or anticipated could possibly cause damage to engine internals, also setting of an alarm to the knock sensors. i would think that any engine would run slightly better with higher octane fuel, but getting the most out of it would definitely require a tune.
i think when the higher octane file is choosen for the APR tune, higher octane gas is anticipated, thus timing is changed to allow for more compression, with the expectation of more combustion pressure. lower octane fuel would pre-detonate under these circumstances..

your acceleration seems great considering the times you got with bad launches/shifts/other people. i'm usually the same way when doing it in public. i'm eager to see what you do in better conditions, more in the top end (60-140)
but for these reasons, i never hard shift between 1st and 2nd or launch for that matter. 2nd gear and up pulls only.

wow guys, was in richmond last night.. there was a modified race going on, so i went bye and got 3 gallons of 112 octane.. this morning on the way home, all interstate mind you.. that fuel and 65 degree temps.. man it was a blast... 140mph and no downshifting and still got there in a heart beat.. it was so exhilarating...

sob... i want 112. you're rubbing this in our faces for your own pleasure, not cool bro
