Default Power loss in higher gears

Hey guys Im having some serious issues with my 2000 Audi S4. THe car has 42,500 miles on it(chump change for a 6 year old car) and is never abused. When I am cruising on the highway in 6th gear, say 75 mph, if i put my foot down to acclerate, the RPM's suddenly jump up a few hundred, say 2800-3300, and then will resume back down to 3000. Im losing alot of power and this can not be good for the car. This also happens in 4th and 5th gear. I do not see a problem in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gears. If anybody has experienced the same problem or can offer any suggestions, they are MORE than welcome. Thanks all, ride easy

Ben

Sounds like the classic symptoms of a slipping clutch, although 40k-odd miles seems way too soon to need a new one.

I agree....sounds like a clutch problem. take it to your audi guy, perhaps it just needs adjustment. how sure are you that it has never been abused?

I just got a new fatory clutch put in mine (had a stage 3 but the guy that owned her before me installed it wrong!!) and it would do that to me when i was on the freeway 2, they told me not to give it alot of gas until i got sum miles on it. but im not sure if that helps, sry.
