Default Problems with my new URS4

Hey guys I just picked up a '93 s4 that needs a little work.

I saw this car a few weeks before I got it and all I really know is that it is chipped, was originally running 20-22psi and had no problems.

1)
She has a searching idle that ranges from 650-1000 and is not consistent.

2)
When accelerating there is a heavy sputter and boost is not consistent. It ranges from 5psi-16 or so. I have very little power and the surging really scares me.

I'm yet to find any vacuum leaks, but I'm not sure what else to look for!

Excuse my noobness please. Also, if anyone has a good link, site, etc for info on parts, history etc SPECIFIC to the URS4 I would really appreciate it. I feel like I've spent hours on here and haven't learned much.

sounds like you might have a boost leak. check all your boost hoses.

I went through today with a can of brake cleaner and tried seeing if I could track down the leak. I didn't have any luck.

Would you guys say that's the most plausible cause?

It will spike to 16-17psi at times and then other times lose all boost under accel.

Could it be my wastegate or am I worrying too much?

This is my first real turbo can so I'm trying hard to learn and not blow her up.

it could be the wastegate. if you cant find a boost leak or a vacuum leak try checking gaskets and the wastegate. you picked one hell of a car to be your first turbo vehicle.

Thanks. I'm going to start looking into it more thoroughly. I'm really worried I'm going to hurt it.

It isn't my first turbo car per-say, I've had a few swapped 240sx's and a tII rx-7 but they were stock for the most part and I wasn't worried about blowing them up due to the ease in finding parts for them. This car it seems it like the mystical dragon of all parts car. I can't seem to find simple things like door trim anywhere.

Argh.

2benett might be your best bet for finding those hard to get oem pieces. 034 would be the next best thing after them.

fc's and sr'd 240sx's! sounds like you've realized that gripping through turns might be a little better than sliding sideways through turns.

Yeah, I've already taken a look at both of those sites. I guess I'm stuck trying to track that molding down on Ebay and the forums.

I still have an e30 as well. RWD will never leave my blood I'm sure.

you probably want to call and talk to the guys at those two places. they are known to locate hard to get audi parts. there websites mostly just detail there performance parts.

nice on the e30(i love that chassis). its always good to have a working second car when in the 1st or 2nd gen audi s4 game. i have the 2011 328i. waaaaaaaaaaaay laaaaaaame!!!!!!! i have never driven an n/a car with turbo lag. talk about a disappointment.

I'll be sure to do that. Right now my biggest concern is the boost leak and the misfire.

As for the e30, it has a bad motor... but as soon as the s4 is in dependable daily mode then she's getting a transplant.
