Q's about a specific s4 i'm looking at buying sooon! please help.
hey all, so i'm upgrading from my 97' a4 to an s4 (or possibly a G35 coupe...all depends...)
I'm looking at a:
2001 S4
Tiptronic
59k miles
Silver on black
asking price is $17,900.
here's the pics (sorry for the links, don't know how to make them show up in the post....)

http://06-04-20.flowe.net/DSC00974_w.jpg
So onto my q's.
1. How much does the 60k service cost? (he has not done it, last service was 50k at the end of the warranty, done at Beverly hills porsche/audi service dept.) and what is involved in the 60k service?
2. When does the timing belt need to be done on this car? and how much does that run? (i know its soon...)
3. When do the turbo's generally need to be replaced, and HOW MUCH do they cost when that service happens?
4. What am i looking at as far as servicing this car over the next say 3-4 years? (with estimated prices if you know 'em)
5. Obviously from the pics, the rims are all curb-rashed. What in your opinion, is that worth to you? like, if i say 'well, the rims are all scratched, so i'd take off $800 for those...' etc. (i know, kind of a subjective q, but we're all friends here and i value your opinions.)
6. Does this look like a good buy? I drove the car, and it drives smooth, all electrical works, only things i noticed are the obvious scratches in the pictures. (Front bumper above license plat, rear bumper from probably parking, scratches on rims, and notorious scratches on the silver plating around the shifter, some minor scratches on the door sills, one scratch on the air bag square on the dashboard in front of the passenger, actually a real bummer, just looks annoying, and probably can't 'buff' that out, and wouldn't want to try to replace just that part, too much $$, would just live with that one).
He has had it serviced under warranty the whole time just down the street from his house at the audi service dept, so that's encouraging.
7. Obviously my goal is to say 'well, this is the money i'm about to have to spend on the services, and the turbos, and to fix the scratches, etc. Please drop the prices to say $16k (and try to just hand him money to entice him). etc. So any advice on that?
8. (i know, sorry for the tons of q's, but jsut trying to get it all at once.) Does this 2001 seem like a good car in general. i won't be racing it, i will be chipping it probably, and probably whatever other minor enging mods i can do to gain power without doing crazy turbos or anything. I just am leary of cars in general that are more than a couple years old. Is this car worth the money? Will it keep driving solid for a good long time?
Thanks Thanks Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Looking to pull the trigger on this asap as my car really needs to go, and i was about to go pick up a G35 this weekend or this week possibly. But this is enticing to stay in the audi family (and save about $18k).

Sounds like a fair price for the car! Almost all stock wheels are curbed!
1. I paid $600 for mine
2. t-belt 100,000mi, parts are $250, not sure about labor
3. New K03's are $2000, you can find them used for much less, take care of them, they will take care of you.
4. T-belt, tires, tie rods, diverter valves, TBB, general maintaince, brakes, just normal stuff. Maybe turbo's.
5. They are all curbed, just get new rims, used ones go for a couple hundred.
6. Looks good, if it runs good get it!
7. that's up to you, book price is about $22k
8. Your learly about a 5yo car? Come one now, it's a Audi! I will tell you they are totally worth book price! It's a awesome car!

Yeah there a great car, the manuls have more get up n go but if u wont a auto thats up to u i guess?
Its got good miles on it, one thing i will say is that the S4 i very deceptive car in the way it just pulls so smoothly with virtually no turbo lag, i know in my manual that it pulls in all gears very easily - thats stock
As 2k S4 said pretty much all wheels on a S4 are curbed, you are lucky to have 2 out of a set of 5 not curbed
The belts are a big pain like most Euro cars, and dont skimp on it just get it done, coz u dont wont to be rebuilding an engine!
Silver is a great color to keep clean and for the heat, pretty safe color for scrathes as well
Good luck mate
Cheers

That's a really great price for a very nice ride. I just had my 60k service done and it cost almost $200, and they check everythinggggg. Just for some perspective, I'm selling my 2001.5 S4 6spd without any mods for $19k and it has 72k mi. I would grab this car, chip it, put on your exhaust and have fun..
