Default Question about Boost on chipped s4

I recently put in the AWE boost guage, which was probably the easiest thing to install. Since then I've been watching boost levels in all gears and noticed that it doesnt hit full boost in lower gears. Gears 1,2,3 it only goes to 15-16 then tapers of to 13-14. In gears 4,5,6 I've seen it spike at 20 but usually stays around 16-18 then tapers to about 15. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

I have the APR Flash, and had it put in about 2 months ago.

who chipped it for you or did you get it chipped (a gauge is just a read out of possibles) and normally well out of sink without proper programming

I went to an APR dearler and they flashed the ECU. The guage is not electronic and has a vacuum line that runs to it so it should be pretty accurate.

why would the gauge be out of sink without programming.. the chip itself has nothing to do with the gauge. its reading the pressure in the lines.

ok.. you say youve seen it spike to 20 in the higher gears..but what is it consistent at. I think i know what you mean that you dont seem to get as much boost in teh earlier gears..i notice it too but not by much..

Someone told me that usually you don't hit full boost till 4th, 5th gear, but why? And would I be able to change this with a boost controller?

I have a theory. But before you slam it or accept it you should double check, its just an idea. But when you upgrade power and flashing an ECU can do that (along with a chip), it tends to raise the capabilities of your engine. If you raised your rev limiter/ability of your engine, but the gear ratio is designed to be shifted at a lower power setting, then you would theoretically shift before your car can get all of the new power out of your turbo. Basically when its designed to shift at 6500 RPMS, it gets there before the turbo has built up its pressure and therefore you are shifting before you get 20psi. But if you sit at the top of your rpms waiting for boost to build, you're not doing anything because youve gained all the speed from that gear already. So....the RPM's, the gear ratio, and the speed at whcih you build pressure with your turbo all need some attention. But like I said, im a guy with a theory. And im just a 21 year old stuck in iraq. But it might be something! Good luck!
