Default Quietest B5 S4 exhaust

Call me crazy but I love the fact that my car is quick and whisper quiet (i'm all about the subtle niceness and I want to be under the radar of a lot of people that don't know what s4's are). Im going to be getting the awe downpipes soon and I know the awe twin tip exhaust sounds pretty nice but is there anything that is a little quieter that still flows better than stock exhaust?

Milltek is fairly quiet, at least their catbacks, and supposidly they are one of the best flowing exhausts on the market compared to similar catbacks which are slightly louder.

Never thought about that concept before, I usually just love a nicely loud car... but fast and quiet... mmm.

Miltek, or Vibrant. Both are louder then stock. Added with new DP's even your stock exhaust will be louder.

socialdbob, I'm kinda on a quest for the same thing... I want a very civil/stealth sound for normal driving, but I also want to hear it scream a bit at WOT. I've determined that the Milltek 2.25" Super Dual cat-back is the best bet for the stealth factor, and combined with DP's later on will give me the WOT sound I'm looking for. But the question remains, which DP's? (without starting a war, I'm goingwith DP'sand not piggies becuase Ifeel there has to be a performance difference by providing larger diameter and smoother piping, versus just gutting the cats.)

Obviously Milltek DP's would bolt up nicely, but I'm learning that it gives the resulting exhaustnote an even deeper tone. If possible, I would like to obtain a slightly higher pitch "european" note at WOT, rather than a deepening effect (Like Fast Intentions' custom setup, although I know it's a really open setup and won't give me what I want at idle/cruise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhNIeZ7FzwU.) I still have to check if Milltek's cat-back is compatable to other DP manufactureres (i.e. AWE, ASP, APR, etc.), that is without any major cutting or otherwise.

I'll likely gowith ASP DP's unlessI find something else better.

I think due to the fact that Awe is literally like 15 minutes from my house I might just go check out the twin 2 in person and see how it sounds along with the awe downpipes... that way if I like itI can have them put it together because its thier stuff and they have done it 1000 times.

Same here. Want a deep, non-throaty sound, yet somewhat quiet.

I found a good article that compared some popular mufflers. Although many of them are domestic type mufflers, the manufacturers do make import versions. Out of all of them, the Magnaflow, believe it or not, showed the most gains and was one of the most quiet. Borla also did very well, but the one they are mentioning is no longer on the web site and I am not sure if one of the current mufflers replaced it.

Hereare the results...

MUFFLER SHOOTOUT:

Results based on 5.0 Mustang Magazine December 2002 issue (page 55). Test car is a ’90 Coupe with 370 HP and 11 second potential. A number of 66 pulls were made to compile this information. Where does your muffler stack up?

The results in HP order:
