Default Random misfire.. ready to give up...*long*

[sm=boohoo.gif] [:@]

ok.. so in my infinite wisdom of trying to save a buck by going to an independant
mechanic (well known in the v-dub tuning circles) & avoiding the Stealership -

I have now spent a small fortune - enough to finance a small army perhaps
in trying to diagnose & fix the problem.

heres a lil background -
I had random misfires in bank 2 - cyl 4-5-6
nothing noticeable on my end - but never-the-less the CEL was there.

First they replaced the MAF - which didnt fix things,
so he replaced the ignition control module ontop of the airbox -
& I had him switch out the plugs as well..

Well, after the ignition control module & plugs -
the misfires went down drastically....

but Im still throwing a code for P0330 - random misfire

he said it was the coilpacks - & I had to replace all 6 of em.. or at least cyl 6.
[:@]
BS. He also wanted to charge me $100.00 per pack
when i know the going rate is about $50.00

additionally, if the coilpack was bad I know it would have a rough idle,
or if it failed - i would have a flashing CEL... I have neither...

I'm not taking it back to this shop. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what
is causing the random misfire? I dont notice any rough idle -

and just to try & make sure it wasnt the coilpack I did change cyl 6 coilpack on my own,
just to rule it out. - nothing... CEL came back - same code.

HELP PLEASE

knock sensor is just below your headers ( middle of the engine approx 2" below the head gasket ) just below cylinder 4

Could be a bad ground. But I would look more to things that can cause you to run rich and missfire like ECTS, bad spark plug/coil pack, MAF, and 02 sensor(s).
