Default RPM to drop stock clutch

Ok - I did something stupid with my 2000 S4. I've had it about a month, APR chipped but no exhaust yet. I was trying to practice getting off the line fast and dropped the clutch at 4000RPM. Big mistake - the car slid forward very weird at high RPM for about 2 secs before I figured out the clutch didn't grab. Oops. Well it smelled awful and I figured I put about 6 months wear on the thing. Now I'm skittish - any tips on launching RPMS anyone want to share?

heheh.. that smells normal at first when u practice[:'(]....Im sure no major harm was done...
just try not to let it happen too many times & just remember not to "dump" the clutch (quattro)
you want to release the clutch on the upswing say at about 3.5k so theres boost generated
to move the car... heres a quick article:

what i do is feather the clutch up to about 4 grand, so you can hear the turbos spooling and its like "waaa ba ba ba ba ba ba ba" so you can keep the wastegate closed, then on one of the "ba's" dont dump it, dont slip it, but lift it real quick like. the tires'll chrip and you'll be gone faster than a hot broad shen you drop a C U Next Tuesday on her. i know what you mean about the stink, its bad, ive slipped mine twice, very uninjoyable. good luck. oh, and if you're in a turn, you can chrip second as well...
