My 00 S4 was stolen, recovered it a few hours later with a blown clutch. Anyway, fixed the clutch, but have this very loud rattling noise coming from the shifter (6 speed man) when I rev the engine, in nuetral or while driving. Sound like metal rubbing at high intervals.

Any thoughts?

 

Thats definetly not good, take apart your shifter and oil it or see if something hitting something. If you have some cash buy a short shift and it will prolly fixit.

 

does insurance cover that sort of thing?

 

I'm going to take it apart this weekend, hoping it's something simple like loose bolts from the clutch fix. The insurance company will pay if I can tell them what it is.

Right now its sounds and feels terrible. Anybody ever take apart the shifter assembly in a 00 S4?

 

I have on my 1.8t, dig the install of the dIY short short in the tech, follow those instructions and oil everything that looks a lil rough.

did u install ur clutch urself? or did u have a place do it for u? if u had a place install the clutch bring it back and have them fix it on there expence

 

Are you sure it is your shifter, because i have the same noise, but mine is just the UUC exhaust ratteling under the car, its a tight fit under there and with just a little movement things can start to rattle and sound nasty. Just a thought!!
