S4 or STi?

2k S4 you're basically saying the cars were poorly designed and to easily fix the Jap's error they slapped an enormous piece of plastic with two supports on the trunk. If the car was created properly it wouldn't have this problem. Now it would have this problem if it was making over 700hp and 1000ft/lbs. of torque as pretty much any car would have just because of the excess of power and spinning the wheels. If a car gets squirlly with less than 300hp on a launch, I'm sorry but something is wrong.
Look at a lot of super cars. They have ridiculous power yet most do not have spoilers. A Mclaren F1 for a while was the fastest car during its time and the street version did not have a spoiler, the street Saleen S7 doesnt have have one, not even a Z06 has a spoiler. If all these cars that are capable of taking turns at high speeds do not have "wings," it would make sense a little ricer would not require one to function properly. The down force that it may create should really only have an effect at high speeds during cornering or traveling 140+. But the car would probably over or under steer a corner before the spoiler would really serve a purpose and they would take a while to reach 140 if it weren't heavily modded. Watched the shows Pinks on Speed T.V. tonight and I not one of the 9 second cars used a "wing."

It's not on launch, it's when entering a high speed corner. Areodyamicics have nothing to due with launching or low speeds. The wing is to balance the front end. You don't want downforce on the front & none on the back, it's scary. The car was styled for Rally & after Rally, they made it to fit in the rules to race it. Most Rally cars have, yup, big wings. It's a race inspired part. If you remove it, you need to redo the front end to match. Again, the wings are up that high to catch the best airflow.
Here are some pics of the wings in the wind tunnel http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthr...+sti+downforce
If the wings are do dumb & bad engineering, why do just about all racecars run them? Think, AUDI, Porsche, BMW. Look at the Veyron, it has a stupid big wing.

The EVO/STI are so NOT rice!
The EVO/STI are so NOT rice!
because rice is the food of choice in japan. which is where these cars are from. so, that makes them rice rockets. they are from where rice is eaten and they are rockets..
make more sense?
Yeah, I think any Japanese sport-compact falls under the slang category of "rice rocket". Granted, the EVO's and STI's are incredibly capable cars and can out perform almost anything stock vs. stock (2K S4, all respects to your EVO), but technically still rice-rockets non the less. Now if your talking abouta Supra, Skyline,NSX, or 300-350Z (and maybe even RX7's
),I don't think these cars can be labeled that seeing as they're definitely the "top of the [Japanese sports car] food chain"...

do you know how the label "rice" came to be?

IMHO, any low end economy car, that some tires to make a race car but with no budget is a Ricer.
I would call any import with a fast and the furious over sized muffler that sounds horrible a ricer. Along with this comes everything mentioned above with the over sized wing, multi or ugly colored car with some type of retarded body kit that makes you wonder how and why the person put it on.
It sounds like you're really concerned with going fast and beating other cars off the road. Either car can become a monster if it's modded appropriately. Though, if your so concerned with being that fast, your probably going to be concerned with looking fast too;so other cars will try to challenge you on the street. Which also tells me that you are probably "that guy" who darts through traffic and trys challenging other cars on the road. By taking all of that into consideration,I say hands down go with the STI. The STI will be better suited for your taste for having the fastest car, and be more appropriately paired with the way I'm assuming you drive. From a reliability standpoint, and people correct me if i'm wrong, I've rarely heard of major things like turbo's going in STI's (though they do have tranny issues). If you buy a B5 S4, your likely eventually going to have to dump a ton of money into when the turbos blow. If your more concerned with sheerspeed than quickness, luxury andclass, go STI man.
Other than a similar performancefigures. These two cars are miles away in targeted buyers and build quality. It is like comparing a Balogna sandwitchto aRoast beef sandwitch. Both will get you filled up. Its just the balobna is filled with lips and as* holes. I dont think that is being Audi bias at all. Its just the two totally differentprice points both of these cars are targeted to. Its should be that way because ....You got to drop alot more coin to pay in the German performance car world than you do in the Asian car world. In the end, you do get what you pay for.
