An S8 might be in my future...what would I be getting into?
Hello all. Newbie here, regularly a BMW and Merc guy but love all German cars (sans Opel in several aspects 
).
Anyway, I've always had a love for D2 S8s and I am determined to buy one when I get out of college in a couple years. That and I just love to learn about cars, especially ones I would be considering in my semi-near future
.
So what would I be getting into if I were to be buying an S8 in a couple years?
Always loved the design of the D2s and especially had a very soft spot for the S8s.
What can you tell me about the car and what are some common trouble spots etc?
I currently have a 1994 Mercedes W124 E320 Coupe and a 1975 W116 280S and absolutely love them both.
That said, for those who have D2 S8s and A8s, share your experiences! It may be a bit preposterous to be asking such details since this is not in my near near future at the moment, but like I said, I love learning about cars I have a strong interest in and would be good to know if my aspirations are justified and will be rewarded by a car that I'll be investing in later on
as I work hard towards it. And we're all car buffs so who's going to lie, we love talking about cars!
How are they to maintain? What are some trouble spots? Will it be more expensive to maintain than my beloved W124?
for example i can tell you that many early 1990s MBzes have the possibility of having bad wiring harness from a design mistake by factory...or that E38 740 BMWs like to eat water pumps and radiators every 100k miles or E36 and E46s BMW 3ers have rear subframe issues and W126 Mercedes V8 S-classes need their timing chains replaced every 80k.

Iv heard the transmission on the D2 S8 is pretty poor. I dont think theres anyone in here with one (if there is they dont post), id check out www.audiworld.com and www.audizine.com you will get much more information over there
