It would definitely be nice to be able to use something other than jack stands, I wish it were more realistic. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't like the jack stand placement locations on the B5s. It's such a small area for the jack stand to come in contact with the car, I always feel like if I wrench too hard on the tranny, the car is going to slip off and smash my ****. Maybe I'm just claustrophobic, anyone else feel like this?
I'm with you guys about jackstands, I get a bit freaked out working under the car on jackstands, it's actually quite tough for me to get used to because I used to have access to a shop for quite some time.
I have those drive up ramps and always have to use wood to ramp up, and they slide out or whatever when coming down off the ramps, I should weld some risers so it's not so steep.
I have 2 very nice large 6 ton jacks, but after seeing the new style of jack I'm debating tossing them for a trade up... it's just hard for me to just waste money like that... but the new jacks I have an eye on, have the jackstand built in, and where you lift the car also is the location of the jackstand then you just pull the jack out, and the stand stays there... which is great because all to often the place your jacking is the place the stand needs to be, or really freak'n close...

I use jack stands and ramps... ramps for anything that doesn't need the wheels off, and jack stands if it does need the wheels off. my working conditions suck too, don't even have a paved driveway or garage [:'(]
I'm a lift guy. It's nice. and we are upgrading soon. so Im happy about that. Only because I work at a shop though. I live on a dirt road in a dirt driveway. and only an emergency jack at home.

I was always worried about jackstands until I learned that as long as they have decent contact that, that cars not coming off. I saw two friends of mine try to push a car off of jackstands and it wasn't happening!! Not the smartest way to see if a m3 was secure but what the heck, and I was feeling a little ballsy once when my car was completely off the ground with 4 jacks and I gave her a good side push and it stayed.... yeah I'm a little dumb at times.
