i just purchased a 2000 s4, stock, and it seems like at an idle the car has a little shake to it, i know one of my other vehicles did this but the check engine light was on and it ended up being a misfire. is this normal or should i have it checked out?

I had a similar thing, the car would splutter and almost cutout when started from cold
I ended up being a MAF - lucky was a cheap repair
If u havent got access to a VAG-COM get a dealer to see wat codes its throwing

it was throwin a code, and it was the MAF but i already replaced that, now there is no code but i still feel the little rough idle

 

Have u changed plugs lately, if u do go for the NGK coppers
Is it the same shake as prior to u changing the MAF?

 

well i just purchased it so i dont know when the last time the plugs were changed, but its probably a good idea to do it. and yes its the same shake as before i chagned the MAF
