Default Short Shifters

Alright, i have a bit of and issue with my shifter, it is bent. It doesnt go into the gears without a lot of brute force persuasion, and im tired of it. I was thinkin of doin a short shifter, but some of my friends that race say that short shifters put a ton of stress on the tranny and a couple of them blame them for tranny problems. Buttt none of them drive audis. I cant afford a tranny rebuild, and i want to know if short shifter is gonna cause problems or if they are fine.

Thanks!

I have to ask, how did you bend your shifter? If you're putting that much force into your shifter, then stock or short, you're going to kill your tranny anyway.

Short shifters don't put additional stress on the tranny IMO, the driver does. If you decide to powershift through every gear, you'll prolly wear out the transmission pretty quickly whether you're using the stock shifter or a short shifter.

^+1 my car just turned 96 on the clock and I still have no problems with my tranny, or shifter, cause the audi is gated it has no slop when going in like other cars do. Just make sure you dont beat on it all the time or take your time putting the gears in place till you really get it down. I have the JHM and LOVE it was better the stock, this would help out with the bent shifter also.
cheers,
paul

I didnt bend it, one of the fine "improvements" (said with the utmost of sarcasm) that the previous owner left for me.

Lol, I love those "fine improvements" previous owners leave behind. Also, have you seen the JHM videos? I agree with readimag, check out the JHM shifter. They show in the videos the difference in shifter slop between stock/short
