Default Should I Buy??

i know everyone who is thinking about an S4 posts here but i need input please.

I had an accident and totaled my beautiful custom 2000 Passat 2.8 and thus need a new car.

Theres a guy here in cleveland (private) with an 04 Silver S4 in silver. w/rs4 rims and a new clutch installed 3K miles ago. (Yes he has the paperwork to prove it)

The thing is that the car has 90000 and i drive at least 15K per year. But he's asking 16750$ (im sure i can knock it to atleast 16K)

Any advice?

the milage is a bit high but the price is a fair for the milage. your s4 is going to cost a little bit more expensive than your passat for maintenance but if the PO has taken good care of everything then it wont be to bad. theres a guy around here with 70k and its going for 21,000 just for comparison.

thanks for the info it helps alot. I thought the price seemed fair i just gotta talk him down to about 16 (where my limit basically is)

I did do most of the work on my passat myself. Every piece of the suspension, some engine stuff, oil changes, wiring, lights, and regular maintenance. So I'm hoping, although they are different in many ways, that i can do a lot of the things myself on the S4.

Also I have a couple audi owner friends, one of whom built a B5 Biturbo back together so I'm hoping it should save me a trip to the dealer.

Should i be worried about upcoming big maintenance? I've head that there are just chains for timing on these but am not sure what the full run down is on it.

See if the timing belt (yes belt, no chain) service has been done. If not, it needs to be done and it is fairly expensive if you have someone else do it. Expect to pay between $900 and $1500 depending on where you take it.

If you like to DIY, complete kits can be ordered for ~$400 that include everything you'll need including timing belt, water pump, tensioner, etc...
