Your guide is a lot easier to follow and just as accurate ;] I like the clear illustration on where those 100mm nuts are located. That tripped me up for quite a while. I didn't realize I needed to peel back the wheel well so far to be able to get to them. The flexible extension for the socket wrench really was necessary for me to get at those.

Any tips on how to level the headlights? I may have mixed up something and ended up with one side slightly off from the other and with the new headlights using a lens I have a defined horizontal line where the beam of light cuts off and I can see where they do not meet up correctly. It's a silly thing but I end of staring at it when driving. I read someplace that there is an adjustment you can make but am not clear where it is.

On final thing, at the beginning of this thread you mentioned wanting to preserve your bi-xeon headlights. Do you have the factory xeons or aftermarket? I have been considering putting xeon / HID in mine but I am not familiar with any brands and am looking for some suggestions on what to get or avoid.

I have factory adaptive bi-xenons :-) they turn with the steering wheel that's why I really wanted to keep them if possible.

I'm not very knowledgeable about aftermarket HIDs. I can tell ya the OEM bulbs are about $190/ea from an Audi dealer, $100/ea from Advance Auto Parts.

I use a cordless Makita 3/8" impact with a long extension and a 10mm deep well to get at those 10mm nuts. Yeah they are back in there a bit LOL

Half-way through the second headlight:

I simply used the original LEDs to line up the holes for the new LEDs ... basically drilling between every other one.

Here is how the rail pieces are secured from the back - black hi-temp silicone.
(the red & black wire you see I actually cut out - it powered the old LEDs)

Here is how I wired the LEDs to work with the factory switch.
I jumped the blue and the yellow together (city light positive and stock DRL positive)...
...then connected the positive lead to those and then a brown for ground.

Wired this way, the headlight LEDs work with the factory DRL on/off switch, and are always on at night. I also installed a 12v voltage regulator here between the stock wiring and the LED wiring. 12AU3 Auto/Marine LED Driver

I also finally removed my LED running lights in my fog grills about a week or two ago - it only took me about 20 minutes so that mod was easy to return to stock.

******** IMPORTANT NOTE ********

I've been getting a lot of requests to build these LED rails for people, but I simply do not have the time or desire to get into making them for everyone. I just thought it would be neat to make my own unique set and then post how I made them.

Do not worry as there is another option.

There is an LED kit out there you can buy from a reputable guy on this forum Fly300kts (aka Phil) https://www.audiforums.com/forum/members/fly300kts-61689/. His kit is similar in style and very very easy to do compared to making your own as I did. Just PM him for more info and pricing.

You can see Fly's LED kit here: B7 LEDs by Fly300kts

Thanks and no, I didn't do a write up. Most of my work went into the headlight inserts.

Ok .... LEDs all glued in place using minimal hot glue:

Black hi-temp silicone is laid between and on the LEDs on top of the glue and allowed to fully dry.

IMPORTANT! How to wire the 12v Oznium LEDs

Notice the heat shield :-)

A dab of silicone in each of the top corners making sure it won't move then I re-assembled headlight.

A quick test:

It's a go! I put it all back together and here it is!

Low voltage security lighting:

LEDs fully lit:

How do you separate the lens from the headlight assembly? Just pry it off or is there some clips involved?

While I am really happy with the appearance of the kit I bought, I am sort of tempted to do something with my OEM lights now that they are just sitting in a box.

Heat gun, low setting. Pull apart with your fingers starting at the small end.

Only 5 clips per headlight two on top and 3 on bottom .... or you could sell them cheap to me LOL!
