so there's no way to run a fmic?

sorry, stupid q, but im an a4 guy....

do you have to pull the engine and tranny to do such an upgrade?
and what size exhaust is that? are you gunna run exhaust all the way back, or just to where it is now?

after college, i think imma invest in an s4 advant...

oh yea, and how much power are you looking for, and with what software?

The turbos are down in the sides towards the back - deep down...perhaps its possible to replace them without pulling the engine - but its a scary thought. The S4 engine and asundry are very densly packed in there. Likewise the downpipes are a very tight fit. My mechanic assured me that removing the engine was the way to go - also made getting to the tranny much easier. Plus we replaced hoses, gaskets and all sorts of stuff.

The exhuast tubing is stock. I already had an Apexi fat tube type muffler. I do plan to replace it at some point - I also wanted to replace the intercoolers (with AWE) - but I'm already over budget - so I will save these mods for latter. We'll see - I like my exhaust - I like the sound & get compliments on it - its not too harsh but kicks out under full throttle...and its already gotten me one ticket - so said the cop when I complained that I wasn;t too loud - he said he sure heard me - etc...anyway I'm hoping that the stock exhaust won't hold me (turbos) back too much - we'll see...

Whats an fmic BTW?

As for power - don't really know - I'm hoping for 420-430 hp range and perhaps a bit more torque - but really don't know (I'll be running 93oct pretty much exclusively). I'll dyno it after everything is settled in a bit (and before its too too hot out...)

FMIC, is short for "front mounted intercooler". But man, it's looking awesome, be sure to get some nice pics and, if not asking too much, a video to share? BTW, I am absolutely in love with your car.

Hey thanks! Funny it (well the RS4) was my dream car since it first came out - and while it was unavailable in the States I always wanted the S4 Avant and in the special Nogaro package...and lo & behold - the stars lined up (my wife said - lets get a German car - and I want a wagon...and I said - I have something in mind...that day it was the first car to come up on my search..and it was local...I fell in love to and knew we would buy it...wife approved based on the pics) - anyway I do love this car - but there is a little love-hate. I've had far too many issues - things going bad (beginning with the clutch after less then 1,000 miles and Audi refused to cover it though car had only 20K on it - chipped they said...yet they told me in the inspection I demanded that it was clean...I could go on. I've also had problems with the APR chip and all the usual stuff...still the car has given me great grins and I love it (and its practicle too - I filled every inch with speakers at one point - hauling them from Fedex to home - quite a job fitting them in - but the car held them all. I've also had lumber sticking out the back, christmas trees on top - etc and of course its my ulltimate snow machine.

Anyway was supposed to get the car back today - have good news and bad news. The good news - engine work is all done - in fact its already been out on the road (but not with me in it...) - according to my mechanic and the owner of the shop who went out in it - well they were blown away! Mechaninc has done stage IIIs before and related and he thinks this one is the ****. Owner wants a B5 S4 now! Wants to do it up the same. They said they were actually scared by the acceleration! And they are primarily a custom/race shop for Porsches (though they do all sorts of cars with emphasis on German). They also sell and service Radicals - specialty go-cart like track only cars...and have told me what an exhillerating experience they are - not easily matched by a conventional auto - well - they said my car matched it!

The bad news....I don't have the car yet (and won't for a week - as mechanic has left to see an ailing relative)....the issue - Clutchmaster Stage II clutch and/or (likely) flywheel - defective somehow. Seems like the flywheel is warped or something related. The car is experiencing violent shudders when clutch is engaged and it is in gear - under low RPMs (from start) or when downshifting. Sitting at idle the whole car just shakes....so way no good...Clutchmasters has agreed to replace the clutch (we have tried a number of things - such as disconecting the AWE Tranny stabilizer) and such - and no change. Its a big time bummer - but such is life. Unfortunatly had a road trip planned and still will be going on it - but with BMW & a rental! (way not the same). Hopefully the replacement clutch won't have this problem and will be more civil then not). In the meantime I can't wait to get out with this thing and fly!

And any input/suggestions/accounts of similar experiences with S4 clutch set-ups is appreciated...

Oh - Achtunning sells a fmic....its wicked (but costs nearly $3K...before instal) and requires some cutting of bumber and surrounding.

I'd go the AWE intercoolers if I (eventually) need them....we'll see.

Also my mechanic says my exhaust seems just fine...but he'd be more then happy to bolt on a new exhaust for me whenever I want to UG!

Hehe, man I'm getting excited just hearing about it. Be sure to post lots of pics!!!

I too am the same way though, love the Nogaro blue and always wanted a wagon (pretty much want an RS4 as well), but a lack of funding has prevented that dream from happening. Good to know someone else is living it out, properly. That sucks about the road trip though, would have been a blast in the S4. But jesus, the owner and mechanic were scared? Haha! You are going to be a happy customer. Keep us updated though (at least me).

PS: I'm a little confused, I noticed downpipes and cats, but did you mention the rest of the exhaust was stock?
