stock s4 vs stock wrx
So my buddy has an 02 wrx wagon and im about to buy a 00 s4. he keeps talking about how his car is gonna smash on mine once i get it but im kind of doubtful. ive never actually riden in an s4 though so i wanted to get some other opinions. what do you guys think? his wrx is stock other than a cat back and lowering springs.
IMHO it all depends on the drivers because the cars are so close power to weight ratio wise... i played with a wrx on the highway once and he couldnt really get away from me, i chose to stay behind him (for obvious reasons) and his car was blowing out smoke between shifts and i never really went any lower then 5th gear and i kept up with him the whole time... another thing to consider is how the two cars will do against each other from a roll and from a stop... just some things to keep in mind, find a way you can beat him, im sure it can be done
yea i was thinking about that. the factory specs say that the s4 should be a little faster but i think the fact that he's over 400lbs lighter might give him and edge off the line but the TTv6 i think would top out higher and porbably win on the freeway. but hes driving me down to central oregon from seattle and were gonna race on the way back so i guess well see.
how much would a tuning cost me? and i just found out he has a stage 3 prodrive chip giving him +60hp. news to me! haha. well what kind of performace boost am i look at from a tune and how much hp gain am i going to get from modding my ecu?
My friend has a stock wrx with a cat back. At a roll from 30mph .40mph & 50mpg I smoked him. I mean it was no contest. I have a 01 s4 with APR program. We laughed about it later, he`s getting chipped next week then wants a rematch. I`ll let you know after that.

Just a few that sell chips, im not sure what daness373 is talking about but they are the usual chips that will give you decent hp gains for the price, for example giac claims 50-90 hp and 80-90 ft-lbs gains but the chip is around the 500$ range, while apr's chip cliams 307 hp and 366 lb-ft on 91 octane for 599.99, that is just a few that i know of off the top of my head, there is more, depending on what you have planed later on down the road with the car or whatever you have money for.
One thing to remember with a chip is that it is important to check/replace some of the following.

1991-1994 is the C4 S4, also known as the UrS4. Featured my favorite engine, a turbo 5-cylinder. Baller as fvcking hell.

2000-2002 (in the USA) is the B5 S4. Easily the most popular, very tunable. Twin turbo V6. What I drive.

2003-2005 is the B6 S4. First S4 to be powered by the 4.2 V8.

2006-2008 is the B7 S4. Continues to have the 4.2 V8, but got a facelift, and some Uber cool tail lights.


Now we are waiting for the B8 S4 which will go from 2008-?. It is confirmed to have a twin turbo v6. Should look something like this.
