ORIGINAL: ZQ8GMC

I'm in a somewhat similar situation. I am a newbie to this forum, but have been modding for several years. I started with a supercharged/intercooled GMC Sonoma, moved on to a Stage II+ 1.8t GTi, and am now ready for further refinement.

I have been searching nationally for an unmodded, low-mileage S4 (yellow, white, or blue) in excellent condition for a couple months now and have test driven several (I'm extreemly picky too). Are there a few things I should be listening or looking for? Does the water pump/timing belt nightmare start close after 50k, or does it just depend? The other question I have is: I understand that in 2001.5 there were changes, mostly badging and ECU upgrades (to save the turbos?). However I have heard that the earlier years (2000-2001.499) produced slightly more power... Is this true? If so, are they less or more reliable than the 2001.5 + models? Maybe to start a mini-pole: Who here has had more problems after normal mods?

Thanks,
J

p.s. BTW supra 2 S4, good luck on the color combo.. it's tough to find 'em in good condition (unmodded atleast ; ) The Negaro is really nice, but the Imola is... Well. I guess it's all preference.
from what i have read, the timing belt thing is to be replaced every 75k miles. but some do it as early as 60k. i know the 2001.5 had less problems, so i guess that would make it more reliable. thats the years i will be getting. i have been browsing these forums for a little while and i see mixed responses with adding mods. it seems to me its just luck on getting a reliable s4. i hope everything works out for you, me im gonna be searching for the next few months and see what i can find, hoping for the best if i dont find one ill be upgrading to a ss camaro which was my first plan. good luck

Haha noone stole the thread.

I've been away for a while. I was at bonnaroo (what a friggin weekend!!!!!!)

Anyways I found an S4 on here that I am goin to have to buy. It is an 01 nogaro 6 speed with 60k miles. Navigation, cold weather package, and APR chip.

My supra is currently for sale and I should have it sold by this week. I'll keep you all updated, and if I do get this s4, I will be spending LOTS of time on here asking questions, posting pics, and mostly getting to meet all of you guys who I should actually thank again for answering my pain in the *** questions.

Mods right away would be a nice suspension setup, and an exhaust. Recommendations?? (here I go again with the questions) [&:]
