switching ecu's
ok kinda new to the more technical side of audi's. i've been fortunet enough to recently purchase a 2000 s4, but its a auto,, yeah kinda lame but what can ya do?
but ive already made some airbox modifications, and my next step in hopefully a chip and i need some opinions. ive been slightly interested in the revo but the only downside is that there is no local dealer in utah which is where i live so i would have to do the whole shipping dealeo. there is a local shop that specializes in giac software.
one other question, i've heard of people purchasing used ecus from individuals and i kinda like the pricing a bit better, but is there some type of downside? and also would it matter what type of tranny the ecu was in previously? or do i have to purchase one that was from an automatic?
i really appreciate any help!!!!

I know you can re-program the ecu's in the A4's so I am guessing you can do it in the S4 as well. I want to know to because there is one for sale on here that I want. LOL
Also if you don't mind I am going to add a question that is also relevant... what ECU's are compatible with eachother? Or what years?

i am sure if you search this has been talk about a ton. but i will help you the best i can, cause it is easy. Ok first start by opening your hood, and taking off the black plastic piece you can pull off covering the firewall and part of the engine. trust me you can jsut pull it off, next you see those plastic screws that look like they strip real easy (that is cause they do) turn them to the left. This will let you take off the cover so you can see the battery and the whole ecu black box on the drivers side. next get the hex that fits and unscrew the black box of death and look at the top of the ecu. it will tell you WHAT ECU you can ONLY yes ONLY have. hope this helps and if there is any spelling mistakes eat my a$$ with a spoon.
Your stuck with a TIP S4 with the ECU you have. The ones with ESP will not work, & there are not a lot of choices. I just sold my full program one for cheap.
Just let the car sit for 3 days, & send out the ECU, it's your best bet.
