Default temp sensor question

i have a 2001.5 s4 and was wondering does the temp sensor ever go bad or give false readings on my car? because today i ran her pretty hard and shut her off colling oil as usuall but when i turned her on like 10 min later my coolant temp is reading at the H setting soo i instantly turn of the car ....turn it back on in like 2 min and it was normal soo i figured it was a temp sensor fluke ...but would like some verification

thanks guys

if you drive your car hard and then shut it off, the hot engine will heat up the coolant and sometimes the coolant sensor and make the reading really high.

the high temperatures inside of the your turbo acually cook the oil if it sits in there too long and will destroy the turbo..

after running your car pretty hard, lit it idol for 3-5 mins, and let the cool oil circulate around a bit.

When you drive it hard, drive it slow for a little while to help it cool off. When the car is off, the heat is still there, but the fluid is not moving, or cooling, so it gets more heat in it, so it is normal.
