thinking of getting 00 s4
58,500 miles
very very clean inside and out. test drive was great.
everything is stock and was a corporate lease vehicle.
the dealer wants 26,999 after tax and such.
i worked him down to 25,333 out the door.
is this a good buy?
seems like if i do buy it... ill be there in time for the 60k maintanence doh!

Sounds pretty good (if it is mechanically perfect.... and if it comes with an "Audi Assured Warranty" (Certified Pre-owned) you are golden! Search the archives for the following subjects, too:
the TBB upgrade
DV upgrade
coolant sensor switch
and, since it's a 2000, the f-hose
For the 60k service, you should be ready to pony up some big bucks for the timing belt to be replaced. Maybe you could get them to do it now as part of the deal/sale???!!!

too much money... way too much.
i have 2001 S4. i leased it first (39 month), then after 36 (3month before the end) i decided to buy it out. called Audi, it cost me $26,180 inlcuding all taxes and fees. it was 2 month ago.
car still has 17,000 milles on it.
my baby... too bad i do not have time to drive it more. have to move out of the city....
u have to do timing belt at 60K on Audi??? never heard that before. is it a belt or a chain? cause my old 1988 Mazda MX6 had a belt, i changed it at 90K, it was still in great condition. My old 1993 Nissan Altima had a chain, rode the car till 150K... then the whole engine died with chain....

You leased your 2001 for 36 months and then paid an additional $26K and you say that $25K is way too much for a 2000? What math are you using?!!
As far as timing belt: It is a belt, and 60K is when many chipped and hardcore drivers do the replacement - Audi says to do it at 75K. Some owners wait until 90K before they do theirs, but it isn't recommended.
well, u pay 50% of the car price within 36month lease of the car. original price of the 2001 S4 was $41,800. plus taxes, plus interest, u will come out with about $48,000 (considering financing for 3 years). devide by 2, and u will get $24,000 total ammount of lease. for me it was $22K. so $48,000 (new) - $22,000 already paid = $26,000
2000 S4 should be arround $22-23K with taxes... not more.

Well...
Edmunds shows the car (with jazz215's specs) would have a dealer resale value of $25K, or $26,700 with a Certified Warranty for a car that is, "Exceptional mechanical, exterior and interior condition; requires no reconditioning."
If the car has, "Some normal wear but no major mechanical or cosmetic problems; may require limited reconditioning, then the value would be $24K, or $25,600 with the warranty.
All of these numbers are before taxes and fees.
So I stand by my original post:

thnx for the replies... I actually went out and bought it. i got it for 22,999 before taxes and 25k out the door. I was loving the drive home, just until the check engine light and epc? light popped on. there wasnt any warranty, now i feel soo f*cked. [:@] car still seems to run fine. what can i do? the dealer already closed for today.
i didnt go with the extra service contract because my credit union was offering a cheaper one for pretty much the same coverage.
btw it is a 00 s4, auto, every option.

Two things:
1. I believe there is a law that allows for you to have the car repaired or to get your money back within the first few days (I don't recall the exact days, but it's within 10 days for sure).
2. More importantly, don't get all worried about the CEL, yet. It could be anything. Relax for now until you get it checked - tomorrow!
BTW: Did you get the service contract offered by your credit union? It may be your best bet if the CEL turns out to be significant.
All in all, I'd wait and see what the CEL diagnosis reveals. Make sure you are firm (toward the dealer) about how the car should not have this kind of problem as soon as you leave their lot. Firm polite behavior with a smile goes a long way.

i actually gave the sales guy a call on his cell, thinking i would get his vm... he answered..
i explained what happened and he said "dont worry ill take care of you" and bring it in tomorrow. I really hope everything works out, the car is a blast to drive.
