Jazz215:

If EPC is on, you have a problem. Often this can mean you have a boost leak. Essentially, EPC should be preventing your engine from running at normal power (& boost) levels.

You should not drive your car for extended periods without fixing this. Many people, including the dealer can scan your car computer, which will help get to the source of the problem.

yeah, my car seems to drive fine... i did goto autozone to pull the code (p1128 air/fuel metering). Im not sure if the actron would pull all the codes? would vagcom be more reliable. i can hear the turbos spool... Im thinking its the maf, but im gonna goto a local audi shop and have them pull the code again.

VAG-COM is the most extensive reporting tool that you can buy for your own use.

Ross-Tech sells it over the web.

glad i saw this thread.....

i dont mean to hijack jazz's thread, but i too am in the market for an 00 S4, a local dealer just got on in on trade. the CEL is on, as well as the brake light. he told me he would take it to Audi and have it checked out. its got 98k on the odometer, carfax is clean, and all service records are with the car. the guy is askin $17,500 for it. i am looking for a car to last me for the next ~3-6 years. would this be a good car, or am i looking at some serious problems in the near future with this type of mileage.

That's a relative question...
It all depends on the condition of the turbos and their support systems.
I'd check to see if the timing belt was replaced; it's due at that mileage and it's very pricey.
Search the archives on related subjects - it's been discussed a bit in the recent weeks.

the main thing i am worried about is the life expantancy of the car........ if i keep it up with regular maintenance, how long can i lok for it to last. and yes, i dod understand that turbo's wear out faster than most things, expecially when you add boost to turbos as small as the K03s that come stock

I know a guy with a 2000 S4 with over 200K miles and he's still on the original turbos. He's an Audi club member and he has done some mods, but he takes care of the car.
Hope that helps.
